she pays £1800 a year in phone charges  and yet paid for a PAYG phone and got a £50 loyalty bonus(I'd hate to see their loyalty bonus if you only pay a few pounds a month!!!)????? Surely a contract has to be cheaper?

you can buy a new V550 PAYG for £130 from Currys(or under £100 on Ebay), no offence but this looks to be one of the worst deals ever rather than a savvy bit of business. I'd seriously consider getting her to take it back to the shop and getting money back and finding a proper deal elsewhere, with a yearly spend of £1800 as it is now she should be able to find a contract with a top of the range phone for free and much less call charges per month. (But seriously £1800 a year, does she ever hang up?)
  • Virgin Mobile Red pay £100 loyalty cashback on £1000+ spends.

But like the man said, get a top of the range contract phone and still save a bucketload of cash...
...and then the window licker said to me...

What they hell does she waste that much money on?

I could think of better things than throwing that much money on stupid mobile calls.

It's just crazy, what some people are happy to waste money on.

As for being only 17 and not being able to get a contract, I had a contract mobile when I was 17.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
  • It is currently impossible if you are under 18 to get a contract phone unless you can find someone who is over 18 and willing to take the contract out on your behlf. I would be surprised if you did get it YOURSELF and would be interested to know how and with whom.

I tried the discount thing that O2 does in the O2 shop. I'd been an O2 customer (or BtCellnet as it was when I got my 1st phone) since 1999. The phone I was replacing was 2 years old and had been used regularly.

I'd have got little or no discount at all. It all went on how much your average spend per month was. High, consistant spending = £20-30 in bonus. But I'd have to had spent £50 per month!

But then I found out that the O2 shop didn't sell the Motorola v547 on PAYG and that it was an exclusive to The Link! :O Weird. Not selling a phone on O2 in an O2 shop? Tres weird.

BTW, the v547 (the O2 version of the v550/v545) is now £99.99 from the link.
    Boo!
