Freedom 2 Surf activation fee loophole

F2S's Connect packages are priced as follows, all 2MB or a whopping 8Mb if your exchange can do it:

Connect Lite £14.99 2GB
Connect Home £19.99 10GB
Connect Plus £24.99 Uncapped

Bandwidth is unmetered from 1AM to 6AM.

A £49.99 activation fee applies & a monthly contract. You can have activation waived but the packages will cost you £3 more per month & on a 12 month contract, using up that saved £49.99 in just over a year.

However, if you sign up to the 512k PureIP package at £22.50 there is no activation fee. Once you are connected, you can regrade your connection to any other package for £15+VAT, which is a big saving compared to £49.99.

I'm about to regrade myself, I'm torn between 10GB or uncapped, just need to make sure & do all my downloads during the unmetered period if I go 10GB.

HTH

Youreds!

I'm already an F2S customer, and spotted this the other day. Before you go and get a 10GB cap, it may be worth seeing how much you download. You can now do this through the F2S site. I thought that I was a fairly heavy user (between my housemate and myself), and found that we don't even download 1GB!!

I'm not sure I can even call myself a geek anymore with 1GB a month!

BTW, if you are planning to use peer to peer software for serious downloads (eMule, BitTorrent, etc...), you may find some restrictions on the capped packages. I thought it worth pointing out.
Organisation and planning are for those who can't handle stress and caffine

Can someone please clarify for me? Is this really a loophole or are you still effectively tied to a 12 month contract to avoid paying activation fee?

I'm trying to help daughter setup phone/broadband in student house and would like to know if this loophole would actually apply in her case. As she will only be there for 9 months would she have to pay the activation fee on terminating the contract after 9 months?

Thats the impression I get from the first post (last paragraph) in this thread
