UK Online any good?

I'm looking at changing from Plusnet to UKOnline, because I can get the same speed for about half the price: plusnet is £18.99 for 512 kb, ukonline is £9.99 for 512 kb...

Has anyone got any experience with ukonline, good or bad?

If I do decide to go with them, I'd appreciate a referral email (ukonline) address, that way we both get a month's free internet!
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Not sure why you are paying 18.99 for 512kb as Plusnet have just changed their pricing structure. On their Broadband Plus package, you can get the maximum speed your line will support for £14.99 up to 2Mb (there are usage restrictions but no caps)

I am TOO interested in UKOnline but their 8Mbps package, I don't live TOO far from the exchange and wondering if anyone is using it now and what's the highest Kbps they've hit so far.

When I asked for a Mac key they upgraded my connection to 2 mb instantly, even though they'd send an email it was done months ago. Whereabouts on the website does it say £14.99 for up to 2 mb? I'm still paying £18.99 now, even though it's for 2 mb...

  • I attempted to join UKonline but after 9 weeks of being told lies about when i would be connected, and over 7 hour on the phone to the shocking customer service they have i gave up. My advice would be to go with someone you can trust. it seems you get what you pay for!

    Don't do it!

Never had a problem with UKOnline. Have been with them since March and everything has been excellent. I am on the 8MB package. ADSLguide.org speed test doesnt seem to work for me as it reports my connection as a 4 MB one but I downloaded nero trial version (32.6MB) in 39 seconds this morning as a test. Thier customer service has been brilliant whenever I have contacted them and I have never had to wait more than 2 Minutes for someone to answer

    Highly recommended

I was attracted to UKOnline by their low price and the fact that they are a pretty large company. The sign up was quite quick and everything seemed to go smoothly.

Since the switchover from my old ISP, however, things have gone far from well. My computer says it is conntected but nothing comes down the line at all (I am writing this from a cafe with a wireless hotspot - so I know it is not my computer that is faulty). I have even tried their dial-up connecting they issue as a back up and that says it is connected too (and makes the right noises) but doesn't actually allow any information from the internet. It did work over the weekend, but died again on Monday - so the set up must be right my end, especially as I had no problems at all with my old broadband ISP (F2S - reliable, but no longer cheap).

And the help line is dreadful. I've waited over an hour to get connected. Anyone getting a fast response must be very lucky - I've called them a lot.

    And so...

I'm locked into a contract with them, have no internet access, can only get the help line after a ridiculous wait, and even then they don't help.

Don't go with UK Online until they have solved whatever their problem is.

I would ask for advice as to what to do (can I break the contract on the grounds that they haven't performed as one would expect?) but I may not be able to get back on the internet except in a cafe or around a friend's house.

    Goodbye, cruel cyberworld...

  • I too have had and continue to have significant problems with uk online broadband.
I havent been connected for over 1 week :(
can't get through to the helpline on phone even although ive called at all times of day and night and have been on hold for more than 1 hour at a time.
its really a bit of a disgrace.
i managed to speak to BT who told me the line itself was fine.
Ive written to them on e-mail four times to ALL of thier email addresses - still no reply.
    what a joke.
