Printer difficulty

I am using XP at the moment so it may be slightly different on Vista, but:-

when you select Add printer and then select Lexmark and then Z11, I think you should select "Have Disk" and then browse to where you have downloaded the XP driver from the earlier link. Then, hopefully, it will install the XP driver on Vista and , hopefully again, will actually work.

'It will install the XP driver on Vista' - really? This seems more than a bit dodgy to me. I don't want to foul up the system.

Anyone have a comment? Am quite happy to do it if the consensus is for it.

OK. I have done some tests on Vista (using Virtual PC).

When using the drivers suggested by Vista, I get the same error message about LXADSUI.DLL.

The XP drivers install OK (using "have disk") and the Z11 can be seen under Printers. [ I did get message 'Windows can't verify the publisher of this driver software'. I selected 'Install Anyway']

What I am unsure about is this:-
o What port are you selecting? LPT1?
o How does the USB to Parallel cable work?
o Does a device connected to the cable appear on the computer as a
parallel device on a virtual LPT port or as a USB device.
o If it appears as a USB device, then when connected and switched on,
does Vista see it as a printer via USB and try to install drivers.

Does anyone have any answers to thes questions.
