Shops that do my head in

I've just added WH Smiths to my list of "shops that do my head in" :(

They've put in new display cabinets everywhere, all a lot taller than they used to be, and so close together it makes me feel really claustrophobic.

Plus half the stuff on the shelves doesn't have a price on or anywhere near it, so you can either spend ages peering at the shelves trying to work out if what you're interested in has a price anywhere near it, or go and queue.

So that's

WH Smiths

one of our Asda stores, which has really weird acoustics and every 'beep' of every till seems to go right through me

the big Tesco, at least until they finish their refurbishment so the noise dies down and the ceiling tiles go back up

the medium Tesco which I'm boycotting because they haven't the wit to stop people joining the queue on a broke till

Primark late on a Saturday afternoon because it's a health and safety hazard with so many clothes strewn all over the floor!

Going to save myself a fortune: will be unable to go anywhere soon! ;D ;D ;D

Funny you should start this thread, as only a couple of weeks ago I realised quite suddenly that my brain seems to glaze over within a few minutes of stepping into Sainsbury's. It's really weird, I'm fine in the carpark, but ten paces into the store I seem to turn into a sort of walking zombie. Even when I'm only wanting a few things I become trance-like and my eyes go out of short-range focus. I lose the plot and stare for ages at things I don't want and have no intention of buying.

I don't think this is just me, and I really suspect there must be some subliminal programming going on - goodness knows how as there is no discernable muzak or pumped-out aromas. Maybe the lighting is set to flicker imperceptibly. ???

Anyway the last time I went, I made a mental determination not to let this happen, and I still had to keep refocusing on "reality", as I could feel myself slipping into "it" every so often.

It's quite scary actually, it literally felt like the little green men were in charge of my brain. :o
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

Your all a bit harsh on these poor shops, especially Rush, can you imagine how much these people are paid. Very few have any career out of working at places like Poundstretchers. If visiting these shops does that to you when you've been in there less than 30 minutes just think what it must be like to be there for 8 hours a day. Anyway it's about time you girls felt like that about certain shops as we MEN have felt like this about all shops forever ;D

That is exactly what happens to me in HMV, Virgin and other music shops! I thought I was the only one! Now I have to buy CDs online, which is cheaper and I don't impulse buy so much.

Don't believe it. Not all shops. Not forever. Tool shops, bookshops, gadget shops, computer accessory shops ... these are a few of my (un)-favourite shops I can't get past with certain males in tow.

Not that I always object to bookshops! The ones which have a few chairs around the place are usually OK! But I question the wisdom of allowing t'other half anywhere near one when we come home from holiday with three carrier bags of books and nowhere to put them other than another pile on the floor!

Can't begin to fathom how awful it must be to work in a Christmas tinsel shop with one of those awful singing Christmas trees ... it's one of those jobs we threaten the boys with: "it's worth working for your GCSEs just so you don't end up in a Christmas shop ... or arranging the underwear in Primark ... or in BK or McD ..."

So far I've been OK in Sainsburys, but this is exactly what happens to me in one of the Asdas. To the extent that one day I came out and wrapped the car round one of metal bits at the end of the trolley bay. :(

Personally I think it's something to do with the internal acoustics, height of the ceiling etc. My ears have been playing up for over a year and I'm sure that's when it started for me!
