Where would you encourage two 18 year old men to go on holiday?

My son (18 in March) wants to go on holiday with his mate for a couple of weeks this summer. They are both off to uni in the autumn so want to go as cheaply as possible (certainly no more than £500 all in). Obviously they want somewhere with a bit of fun and nightlife (they both like music and clubbing) but, particularly as they both have steady girlfriends, they are not into Shagaluf (or Shagalot as my ds calls it
) type places where this is the only thing to do!
Has anyone got any recommendations for somewhere safe, trouble free etc ('scuse me for being an over-anxious mum)
that fits the bill?

I went to Playa de las Americas when I was 18 and it was bizarre! I wasn't exactly a good girl but when there are people lying passed out in the street with traffic driving around them, you do wonder.
Puerto Del Carmen in Lanzarote has a bit of everything really. It's big; has an old town, restaurants, lots of shopping and a fair old number of bars and clubs. Slighty more than just alcohol to amuse you.
Costa Teguise is a bit smaller and quiter but still has everything you want. I went there when I was 19 with a girlfriend and it was an altogether more relaxed affair although we barely slept. You end up going to the same bars etc on holiday anyway at that age.
Summer I guess might be more expensive.

Go on let them go to shagaluf, tenerife or ibiza..... With a bit of luck they will find a nice but common girl called sharon from hackney, move to bristol and end up with two kids, a house and on the Jeremy Kyle show because she slept with her ex boyfriend and now is pregnant...... who's baby is it? Those all important tests results are coming up after the break:rolleyes:
Puerto Del Carmen is actually a nice place, atleast they will find a nice girl there and not sharon lmao!0 -
awww now you're embarrassing me Zebedee!
I know I'm being an overprotective mum..it's just that I can't help remembering the sort of things I used to get up to at that age and want to protect my 'baby' from my hideously embarrassing mistakes (as well as protect myself from gaining a d-i-l called Sharon and a granddaughter called Brittany)
! Just call me Hyacinth Bucket!
Thanks for the suggestions so far... I've passed them on and they're thinking about it. I did look at Contiki holidays as they are a travel company specialising in 18-35 but with more emphasis on experiencing travel, sporty stuff (like white water rafting etc). Has anyone any experience of this company?“A journey is best measured in friends, not in miles.”

When I was around that age, I did thinks like working on a farm in France and going around Europe with an inter-rail pass. I think that you (and probably them as well) would prefer them to meet the people who stay in youth hostels rather than those who go on package holidays to the sun. I have fond memories of the great parties that happened at the (magnificent) youth hostel in Florence: and of the passionate Italian girl I met on the night train to Milan!
The best social scene of all, for that age group, is actually to be found at a monastery in France! Look at the English-language bit of the Taize web-site.0 -
Brighton - it has everything for young men to enjoy!

Contiki have been around for years-they are sold more to foreign youngsters so are more likely to be a mix of nationality-Australians, New Zealanders and South Africans mainly as well as British and Irish. Very social holidays and attracts youngsters who want more than flop on the beach and booze although there will be some of both of those of course

places like tarifa on costa del la luz are becomming popular for sports fans and a great atmosphere is developing. alternativly rhodes town has everything imainable but is also a world away from faliraki!
have they considered the easycruise option?0 -
I think Lanzarote (Puerto Del Carmen) would be ideal for them.
Have you considered somewhere like Krakow? Plenty of budget airlines fly there and the drink is cheaper than in Spain etc.0
