ah i think i have spotted the problem

the yellow cable they ask me to connect is double ended with the small square but i think they have given me the wrong lead as it should be like the red one above.
  • It does actually sound like you have no ethernet on your laptop which is very rare and odd! Can you post a make and model of your laptop if its a dell the support tag on the bottom of it would be handy

so they've given you 2 phone cable ones? does the yellow cable have just 2 wee cables coming out it and going into the connector or 8?
  • so the grey cable has an identical connector (on one end) as the yellow cable (on both ends)?.. highly unusual for a new netgear router, the yellow one should be thicker than the grey one.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?

The red cable is an ethernet lead (the sme as your yellow) - it doesn't matter what colour it is.

I'm very confused by your posts :D
