I can say that as an ecologist, zoos play an important role in species conservation, not least by raising the profiles of many animals and their habitats. By supporting zoos, you are supporting conservation. Habitats are designed these days to try and increase the range of behaviours an animal can exhibit and so prevent stereotypies (the bizarre repetitive motions of chronically stressed animals). The more funds a zoo has by virtue of visitors, the more it can improve and expand its habitats. So feel good that you're concerned but don't feel guilty for wanting to go to the zoo.
  • Read this earlier today and thought what a great trip for half term.

Went into my local co-op to but the cereal and frosties are on buy one get one free so even better way to get the kids in free to Chester zoo.

Thought everyone might like to know.;)

    How much are the frosties?

Kellogs Cornflakes smaller box (not sure the frosties variety) is £1.49 BOGOFF in CO-OP. If I remember it right. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    Guess where I'm off too.............
  • Do you know if its just one child with each full paying adult (not so good for me with 4 chidlren ) or if it applies to children's ticket as well?If its a "real" 2 for 1" offer I'll nip and and buy the cereal today! Also do you have to send off or just take the vouchers along- I'd like to take the family to Whipsanade next week

Hi, why not pay for 2 adults ( you & your eldest), then you get 2 children for free with vouchers. If your youngest is under 3 or can pass as under 3 ;) he can get in for free.

    Adult price winter time = £13 x 2 = £26
    Child x 2 = free with vouchers
    Child x 1 = £10 / £0 under 3

    Total of £36 or £26!

    Hope that helps :)

Is it just the Frosties and cornflakes it is on?

There is no way I would buy Frosties as when I looked at the ingredients they were 40% sugar. Couldn't cope with the sugar highs that my kids would have:eek:

Sugar puffs were 49% sugar, though I think they are made by someone else.

  • London Zoo (and the aquarium) is two for one via the 2:1 rail offers anyway:
    http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/ZSL-London-Zoo
And it's two for one adults, not 'a free child with an adult' so for a group of two adults and two children you only have to buy one adult ticket and one child, not 2 x adult ticket. Unfortunately my OH has already gone out and bought a couple of packets of Frostys (which I hate) before I could explain this to her...
  • Does anyone know if there are restrictions on times/dates you can use the tokens please?
There is a zoo near us listed and it would be an ideal day out for us - saving us £12 on the childrens tickets - but I don't want to buy the cereal if you're only allowed to go on certain days.
    Thank you.

also on rice krispies and coco pops.

    Thanks for that.

It's Rice Krispies for me. They were 10% sugar
    Coco pops were 37% sugar

Just in case anyone else is like me and only gives their kids low sugar cereal here is a Which report showing sugar content. I will stock up on low sugar ones to take advantage of 2 for 1 offer
