    wow, this is an emotive thread... Gotta say I disagree with calling people scum because of their job. If you have experience of dealing with an individual... then yep, bang to rights. If however it's because of their profession then that's not really on (imho). My car got ticketed by an over zealous warden (once I was 5 mins late, the other 20).. now I don't think badly of all traffic wardens but this particular lady could've shown me some compassion (I'll accept the 20 mins one but 5 mins 2 days later you'd think.....)

    Best of luck on the house hunting OP!

    Private lettings? Other than my weekly local paper, and hints/tip on finding private landlords? Cant seem to find any on the www.
    Why don't you try placing a 'rooms wanted' advert on https://www.spareroom.co.uk

    There's a free option and it has national coverage. Not my website by-the-way.

    I think the OP has dodged a bullet here, even if they did so by tripping up.
    Bankruptcy isn't the worst that can happen to you. The worst that can happen is your forced to live the rest of your life in abject poverty trying to repay the debts.

    OP = Original Poster
    Dodging a bullet as it sounds like the agency you went to/ that particular agent would have caused a lot more heartache further down the road if you had got the place.

    Hi - I've become so annoyed by the fees charged by letting agents that I've set up a petition to sign. I expect the government will ignore it, but maybe it will raise awareness of the issue in politics:
