  • It's ok, I think I've found it.

Liverine Unction Ointment is anyone wanted to know, for use on all animals for general scrapes, sores, skin irritation.
  • Sorry to go on about this but have just found out it is hightly recommended to avoid flystrike as well so well worth keeping in as it lasts forever. It comes in white as well now, for those of you who don't want a pink rabbit :)

You should get good quality hay (not from a pet shop) timothy hay is very good.

You get timothy hat in pet shops. You also get Excel (which is what I use) from pet shops. Buying them over the internet doesn't make them any better quality than what can be bought from the pet shop. Premium brands are available at the pet shops and it will be the same stuff that is distributed for net purchases. I refuse to pay postage for stuff when I have 2 pet shops right on my doorstep.

Its strange that the advice differs so much! I use straw and hay for BunBun, on advice from the RSPCA place I got him from. Its hard to know who to believe when there is so much conflicting advice!

I'm hoping BunBun won't get me in trouble today. I've got the landlord coming round, and no-where to hide him!

My thoughts exactly!! The more people you speak to, the more conflicting advice you get.

Eek  let us know how you get on :)

Hope it's okay for me to answer too!! The way I checked was I phoned my vet and asked to speak to them and then asked how they administered the myxi jab. A rabbit savvy vet should know that 10% gets administered in the ear and the remaining 90% in the neck area. Most non savvy bunny vets will just whack the full amount in the neck. Luckily my vet gave the answer I was looking for and they have been great with Max when he had his other jabs and the knackers getting cut off.;)

Maybe Clare Emily will have something different to say:)

lbt, you should get yourself on the Rabbits United forum - they are a great bunch and chock full of helpful things about bunnies!!! It's a bit like feelinggood was saying earlier though - sometimes you get conflicting views on stuff but they are great when your bun is ill or advice on housing or diet:D

Just put him like that scene in ET in between all your soft toys!!!! Quick scan and the landlord will just see fluffy bears and a rabbit that ever so slightly moves!!!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

regarding hay and straw why not find a farm near you because you can buy it by the small square bale and it is alot cheaper.
Also for saw dust and shavings if yo have a local sawmill or builders you can get it cheap from there too, i get mine from my local sawmill
As for straw i have had rabbits for over 20 years and never had problems with rabbits hurting themselves with it. I always put it in their beds

Of course! Sorry I didn't put that very well did I? Looking back it sounds like I am excluding the rest of you lovely forum ... which of course, I didn't mean to :) To be honest, I had never heard the term rabbit savvy until I saw ClareEmily's posts. Will call into my vet tomorrow and ask them that question. They are listed as dealing with small and exotic animals, but we shall see what they say.

Loopy Girl, I am off to register on the other forum. I have spent quite a bit of time on there recently so maybe I should say hello to everyone there too.

P.S I love your sense of humour re: the ET post - that has really tickled me :rotfl:

I am sooooo excited, my hutch came today (my builders are soooo tired of me going on about it, but I think they were secretly really chuffed that they were the ones to take delivery of it when I wasn't in today ... funny bunch aren't they?) If I am lucky I will have my little boy this weekend, but if not it will be next weekend. Phew, glad I have got that off my chest - my friends are starting to glaze over when I talk about him now :o It's lovely to talk to people who love them as much as I do :D

Babykat, with a name like that you don't sound old enough to have had rabbits for over 20 years!!!! Hee hee!! :) Have you always used farm hay and straw? The only reason I am asking is because there is a farm really close to us that sells a bale of hay for £4.50, but in our localish pet shop they "advised" me not to use farm hay or straw because it is untreated. Are they conning me??

Thanks for everyone's advice. I have only had indoor pets until now, but after reading so many books and chatting to everyone here, I feel pretty well prepared.

feelinggood, what happened with your little ET/rabbit today? Are you on the rabbit forum too?
