just started a new job which now takes my hours a week from 7.5 to 20.
before starting my new job i receive full housing ctax and child tax credits.
i have been told i have to pay £37 a week towards my rent, £21.55pw ctax i'm also not entitled to free school meals £225 a month so in all out of my £520 wages i'm working for 67p an hour (13.50pw) and my husband will also have to pay £28 a month in prescriptions
my husband is self employed carpenter and been out of work since sept.
Can someone please explain where the incentive is for me to work for 67p an hour?
i don't think there is any one of sound mind that would work for that.
so much for the government helping people back to work and off benefits.

i think that is the whole point - most people wont bother so they just stay on benefits.
that is why the system needs to be completely overhauled so that people are significantly better of working.0 -
Can your kids take packed lunch?0
-
kids could take packed luch but the amount of money being taken off me is an absolute joke.
there is just no incentive for me to go to work in the morning to look after a child with quite bad special needs and everything that goes with that job (including being assaulted)for 67p an hour.
If my husband was working too we'd be able to get by.
i explained this to both child tax credits and housing and ctax and not one of them would comment.
i've told them i'm gonna hand my notice in, which i really don't want to do as it's a job that is ideal for me and my 5 children as i don't have to sort out child care ect for school hols and stuff0 -
How much child tax and working tax credits will you receive0
-
child tax credit is £170 (no difference from before starting new job) will go up £10 in april Whooopie
working tax credit is £123.00 for the year. (doesn't even cover a months school dinners0 -
thats £170 per week (sorry)0

Do they know your husband is not working0
-
But you're not getting 67p an hour. If everyone worked out their income in that way, a lot of people would be on 50p an hour or thereabouts. I understand it's frustrating, hopefully there will be people with some suggestions.0
