Just to echo the statements above, we cannot advocate deliveratly purchasing goods the intention of returning them as faulty when they are known not to be.
thanks0 -
Agree if I was doing it if they were faulty. However 100% happy means if you don't like the taste, or the razor gives you razorburn, and stuff like that then you're unhappy.
I'd always binned stuff before that tasted terrible or aggrivated the skin, but this thread has made me think about why companies offer TMF and made me resolve to take back things which are just awful if the packaging promises a refund if unhappy with the product.
Sorry, I guess the vagueness of the original post made it seem that Tesco would be paying for my entire shop every week as there was always going to be a caterpillar in the lettuce.
And does anyone have an address for Wilkinson Sword's TMF please?Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

I agree that there is a difference between a straightforward 'Try Me Free', a promotional 'Taste Guarantee', and a generic 'money back if not satisfied' statement. The first is obviously not a problem, as it's a bona fide offer whether you like a product or not. The latter should, in my opinion, never be abused - and is probably approaching fraud if you do so! Plus, there have always been rumours of blacklists onto which regular complainers are put and shared throughout the industry, if this is indeed the case then you're going to get found out sooner or later anyway.
Which just leaves the middle one as contentious, IMHO. Personally I rarely take part in these promotions UNLESS I have a genuine problem, but at the end of the day they ARE still promotions flashed on packs and designed to grab attention. Also (and this is usually the deciding factor for me  ), most of these (the ones with Aylesbury, Preston, and MKM addresses at least) are administered by promotional companies within the Mando group.
Mando are the only promotions company who charge a manufacturer a "fixed fee" to administer a promotion. So, with a 'Taste Guarantee' for example, their cost to a manufacturer will be the same whether they get 10 refund applications or 10,000.
Take a look at the Mando website - https://www.mando.co.uk - to see how they work. If you click on Case Studies, there are specific categories for Try Me Free, Taste Guarantee, Taste Challenge, Quality Guarantee etc. and some of them make interesting reading. One extract, for example:
"Working with the brand’s agency, Mando introduced a number of barriers to entry to allow the campaign to run within the budget requirements. These barriers included five questions to be answered, including a statement of not less than 20 words.
The consumer also had just 14 days from date of purchase to claim their refund. This was a novel introduction to the TMF arena and enabled Mando to agree a one-off fixed payment well below the total financial liability of this promotion."
Given that they seem to deliberately want to make it as difficult as possible for us to take part in these offers (but we knew that anyway!!), I must admit that I often rise to the challenge when they're involved. After all, it's them who have to pay out rather than the manufacturer, and they'd make a whole heap of cash at the expense of the manufacturer themselves if no-one took up the offer. Nothing more than playing them at their own game as far as I'm concerned - but to reiterate I'm only talking about high-profile flashed promotions run via a third party here and would personally never condone abusing any other form of statutory guarantee.

Fascinating quote - excellent intelligence!
I would have thought a central database of complainers would have some pretty serious data protection implications, and probably doesn't exist. It would be interesting to find out.
The satisfaction guaranteed promotions are a good way of trying out Asda or Tescos lowest cost economy brands without risk, but I certainly wouldn't use them as a try me free equivalent.
I think that if I were a manufacturer I would certainly use TMF instead of coupons for which there is no guarantee anyone buys or trys the product: with TMF it does tend to get used, and although I can't think of many products I've tried free and still use regularly (Copella Fruit Juice is one, Clipper tea is another), this has to be the aim of the promotion.0 -
Sorry, didn't mean to start a debate about this. I just ate an awful tasting tesco brand burger and binned it...then thought that their 100% happy guarantee should have made me get my money back.
And then I wondered if any other MSE'rs buy things and bin them for whatever reason without thinking to look at the small print on the packaging for a 100% happy quote. So thought I'd share my revelation in case anyone else was in the same boat. Agree that this promise is open to abuse but so are my tastebuds...and the manufacturer needs to know when they are screaming in pain.
And PLEASE, the address for Wilkinson Sword TMF, anyone?Who made hogs and dogs and frogs?

TMF is a very popular thread. Would it not be sensible to have sub threads for particular TMF's like wine, phostrogen etc??? Then we wouldn't have to go trawling through all the posts to find what we're looking for. Just a thought.Even if you are a minority of one, the truth is the truth.0
