Hi everyone, My friend is trying to fill in a working tax form:rotfl: (how hard cam it be you ask).
He has three children but they live with there mother, on the form it asks are you responsilbe for any children under 20. Well he is because he's there father and see's them regular but they do not live with him so what does he put ?it asks for childs details plus child benefit number buy his ex wife told him he should put it down or it will effect her own claim . So who is right , i have no idea about these things wondered if anyone did?

I find it most helpful to take the form to my local tax office. They will assist you and to be honest they saved me making a right c**k up of it. may be give that a go.Duct tape is like the force. It has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the world together."

For tax credit purposes only one parent can be classed as the "Main Carer" regardless if it is a joint claim or a single claim.
If the children live with their mother he SHOULD NOT put the childrens' names and details on the form - if he did this would be fraudulent as the children would effectively be claimed for twice!0 -
Thank you for reply's.
He is putting a claim in for working tax cos he gets DLA and as been advised he can claim? He also works more than 16 hours. The mother of his children doesn't work so i asume only claims child tax so he not claiming twice or is that still classed as twice.0 -
No thats fine, he can claim WTC in his own right and she can claim the CTC for the children.0
