What a great thread, I'm genuinely surprised at all the branded stuff people are devoted to. Thought I was fussy but reading these posts have made me realise I'm so not! I actually feel a bit dirty at all the economy stuff I 'make do' with coz it doesn't bother me at all! Does that make me a skank??:rotfl:
The only things I can think of that I won't buy cheap are trainers - have tried ones that cost £20-30 and they just don't wear as well as Nike or Adidas which cost -2 or 3 times as much... and are 3 times as comfy too! Not fussy with my other clothes or shoes though, it's Primark, New Look and Dotty P's all the way!
Also my little indulgence is those instant latte sachets - Nescafe are the best but at up to £2.49 a box (sometimes get 2 for £3 on offer - I always stock up!) they're too expensive for me to have everyday, so for Mon-Fri I drink the cheap £1 for 10 sachets version from Asda and at weekends I have Nescafe as a treat. I've come a long way from my £2.35 a day Starbucks addiction though and thinking of investing in a proper coffee maker soon...
Other than that, the only things I can think of that I can't compromise on is bread - economy stuff is like polystyrene, cheap milk chocolate - it's just horrible compared to Cadbury's, and fishfingers - only ever buy Bird's Eye. For everything else, I'm cheap and cheerful!

This thread is interesting to see what people do compromise on......
I'm not terribly fussy but here goes with my list:
Irn Bru & Coke (I'm an addict, own brand stuff just don't cut it!!)
Ariel Liquid & Purple Lenor (can't do without!)
reasonable (not mega expensive but still under £1 each) baby wipes
Huggies nappies (others are junk and leak)
Most other things don't bother me but in recent years, since having kids and pulling in the purse strings (they still escape my grasp at times), I have realised that actually the value products have less fat, sugar, saltc, etc in them and are actually better for you. Although do by a good portion of brand name stuff (due to complaints from family)That, combined with shopping around and picking up bargains when you see them reduces the impact that birthdays and xmas have when they come round (have a box in wardrobe to store goodies/bargains - never without an emergency present again!!!:))

Hey all :j
Unfortunatly we are having our tc cut by over £50 from this week so have decided food shopping is the only way we can cut down by, i already by some "value" items ie tin foil, bin bags etc but not much else if honest. I tend to buy what i need but whats on offer. Anyway ive now got to get my food shopping to £50 per week including nappies(2 adults 2 children) and im v.v.v.houseproud and use alot of cleaning products..................so it got me thinking what have you found you cant down grade on so to speak? Weve bought loads of basic items and most seem fine the only thing im struggling big time on is my diet coke addiction
So mine so far would be diet coke, oh and prob vodka? we dont go out so normally have a bottle over the weekend and the value stuff makes me v.sick?

Value soap-powder is as good as any brands and DD and me have excema and it is ok. I use Aldi a lot especially for their fruit and veg - eggs and meat Aldi softener is very good too.
I only use stardrops , soda crystals white vinegar and bicarbonate of soda for cleaning they cover most cleaning jobs.
If I were you I would first go through all your cupboards and freezers and list everything that you have then make a meal plan and see how many meals you can make from what you already have.
When you go shopping make a list and stick to it....and if possible only take cash with you then you will not be so inclined to overspend.Blessed are the cracked for they are the ones that let in the light

Bread, I like nice bread. I dont mind paying extra to get it fresh daily.
The rubbish that some supermarkets sell is a joke. Okay for toast but
thats about it.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Never go shopping when your hungry, its so hard to resist treats and things.
Have to agree with another poster, Stardrops cleans just about everything.
Dont buy hand washes, buy a huge bottle of cheap shower gel/bath foam and just keep refilling your hand dispenser.
Saves a fortune and you get it in so may different colours. (and it washes your hands just the same)make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.

Butter.
It has to be Lurpak and nothing else.
So much so, I have a butter mountain in my freezer of lots of packs bought when it was on special offer...I am the leading lady in the movie of my life
