So, what don't you compromise on?

    Fresh coffee
    Cheap sausages/chicken/fish
Lenor fabric softener (diluted 50:50 with value version)
Ecover washing up liq/cleaner (again diluted with water)
    Leather shoes
    Cereals: Weetabix & Cheerios
OXO stock cubes (do any others actually completely 'melt' instantly in boiling water?)
Beauty products - I have a no-compromise list including Clarins skincare, three favourite everyday perfumes & salon quality hair products
ETA: Galaxy chocolate! How on Earth could I forget that? Cadburys for DH.

.... a blinkin' long list now that I've written it down! Nothing to do with the brand necessarily, it's the product quality/taste/texture/smell that I prefer. But happily use cheap tinned products, toilet rolls, juices, basic bread and store brand tomato sauce/mayo. And clothes from Ebay. Last week I got a lovely Monsoon top from Oxfam for £7! :)
  • Ive only just joined mse website but ive been nosing for quite sometime!
I wont eat value rice i tried tesco value and it was like mush! YUK! But id try own brand just not value. The tv biscuit barrel is yum and so are the jaffa cakes.
Own brand comfort is ok but doesnt smell as lovely so i use comfort and dilute towards the end of the month if necessary! Im trying to cut back as much as possible, so i will see what you all think is ok and not ok!
  • I think a lot of what I won't compromise on is similar to a lot of others on here. It has to be;

    Tesco Finest Sausages
Decent tea bags such as PG Tips or Tetley
    Decent toilet roll
    Pantene intense conditioner
Decent shampoo - cheap stuff leaves my hair really dry and fluffy
    Warburtons bread
    Warburtons crumpets
Ben and Jerrys ice cream- nothing else quite compares
I don't like cheap meat such as wafer thin ham, chicken etc
    Free range eggs
    Cathedral City cheese
    July 2008 - Halifax One Card (0% APR til Feb 2009) Debt = £361.12
Debt free target - Oct 2008
DEBT FREE Aug 2008 Debt now = £0.00!
    :D

Don't want to live month to month anymore! :cheesy:

    Yorkshire tea
Ground coffee - although we only have one pot a day
Liz Earle cleanse and polish - tried alternatives but nothing else is as good and it lasts me ages ;)
Cauldron sausages - I've tried other veg sausages and they're tasteless and greasy
Fairy WU liquid - lasts far longer than the cheap stuff
I think the only other thing is bread and cake flour from the mill, we have a day out every couple of months and buy it from a mill in Derbyshire, it makes the tastiest bread and lightest cakes so I think it's worth the petrol (plus I get a nice drive in the countryside:D )

Most other things I'm quite happy to use own brand or value
  • I love charity shope. I'm currently sat here in my Fat Face combats that I got for a fiver a few weeks ago. Saw the same pair the next week in Fat Face for £40. They are so comfy.

Rockie4 I ditto most of yours! I love Liz Earle and it lasts me ages. I also think the muslin cloths are fab. I buy Cauldron sausages when they're on offer and freeze them-Tesco quite often do them for £1 a packet. I also stock up on Fairy when it's on offer as cheap ones are a false economy.

I also love real coffee but fortuantely get that free from work. Tea bags are whatever I can get in Poundland or Wilkos. Currently Tetley.

I also love really strong cheese, but again tend to stock up when on offer.

Teria- have you tried Sainsburys Basics Sweetened Soya Milk- I think it's really nice.

I can't compromise my ethics when buying, and strangely this saves me a lot of money as I'm not tempted by 'nice to haves'.

Ecover/method cleaning products (bulk buy 5l & refill ecover)
    Soapnuts
Faith in nature organic seaweed shampoo/conditioner (bulk buy 5l)
    Organic veg from farm shop
    Chemical free toiletries & cosmetic
Recycled loo paper & kitchen roll
Organic/fairtrade food/clothing etc. where possible (and if it isn't, I usually decide not to buy it!)
  • I know this site is all about money saving, but is there anything out there that you enjoy so much (commercially available that is, not up in one's bedroom...) you'd pay more for it ?

I'll start - The BBC's Archers podcast... discovered this last year and have been hooked ever since, its like coffee for me - not so much the substance, but more the comforting feeling it gives me... don't tell them but I'd probably pay an annual subscription of over £50 if I had to.

oh, and my other one would be coffee...

I'm happy to pay for Douwe Egberts coffee, but I usually try and buy a biggish jar when they come on offer. A biggish jar usually lasts me about 3-4 months - and £5 isn't all that that much for 4 months of pleasure.

I refuse to buy cheap mince - I just don't want to be eating mouthfuls of fat and crap. I'd rather pay the extra, and pay for better quality of meat. Meat's always something I've been fussy about.
Everybody is equal; However some are more equal than others.
  • butter, i have to have nice butter for my toast, kerrygold normally, OH likes olive oil spreads and i can cope in sandwiches but not for toast. (he is allowed tesco version not any named brands!!)

and sunday papers, we don't buy them the rest of the week so i am allowed two on a sunday and i get to relax, sat on the floor with a mug of tea and my papers.
