What things can't you compromise on?

I won't compromise on decent soft toilet rolls, and good quality coffee.
I don't buy sausages often, but when I do I won't compromise on them and get the best I can with a high meat content0 -
I 'treated' us to some Kellogs cornflakes the other day when they were on offer in Asda but they were horrible, limp and thin. It may be because I've been eating Special K for ages and they're lovely and crunchy or the quality has gone down over time.
For me I'm getting very twitchy about any value meats so prefer to eat smaller portions and bulk up with veg. For most branded goods (Nescafe, soft loo roll etc) I buy them in when I see them on offer so I'm saving but not going without.0 -

I byu all our clothes from charity shops and if we want other things we have to sell things first on ebay and then we buy the new things on ebay. It's just swapping things we don't want for things we do!
I have expensive make up for birthdays and Christmas, as well as nice smelly things, which we can't afford to buy anymore.
It makes me feel bad the amount of money we used to spend on silly things and eating out. Although it does make me glad in a way that I still have my nice shoes and clothes from when we had money!!
xXx
I'm in similar position and at first I started buying clothes from Primark/Matalan/Asda etc I found that these clothes went scruffy in next to no time and I then felt really low about myself. This may sound very silly to posters desperate to find money for food but I've decided no more clothes from supermarkets (or similar). I'd rather keep wearing the clothes left from when I earned megamoney and when I can afford it buy good stuff in sales or outlet places.0 -
Things I won't give up buying -
Fairtrade tea, coffee and chocolate (sainsburys basics teabags, and Lidl global dark chocolate mmmm)
Ecover laundry and washing up liquid - but although this is more expensive, the health food store refills my containers, and apart from a dash of bleach for the loo, they're the only detergents I've used since "discovering" vinegar!
Sweetened soya milk - the unsweetened stuff is cheaper for a reason - it's foul!
Swedish Glace Ice Cream
Meridien Korma sauce,
Other than that, I'm happy to forage around Aldis for the cheapest of everything!0 -

I often look in charity shops for names such as Next or M&S - things you know will last. They are often very good quality and extremely well priced. From my past experience, if it says New Look or something like that inside then I put it back
I do buy some cheaply made clothes but like you, find they don't last. So I only buy these for things where it doesn't matter if they don't last (eg a fashion I think will fade, or for a specific occasion) or where it won't get such a lot of useworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
My favourite funny moment of the week, mock the week."I used to care about free range, organic chicken till the credit crunch. Now if the only light that chicken sees is the one at the back of my oven that's fine by me":rotfl:Don't agree with him but love the black humour."Sometimes life sucks....but the alternative is unacceptable."0

Re the school shoes, I bought my daughter's for the last school year from Shoe Zone for 9.00. The back edges on the soles at the heels wore out after a few months, because she kept walking backwards on her heels, but other than that there were no problems, and they lasted her through to July. She wanted the same ones this year, and I was happy to buy then for her.0
