There are 2 Hotel Ibis which are pretty cheap... used to work in one of them years ago and they're basic but you know what you're getting!
Treat everyday as your last one on earth! and one day you will be right.

Part of the Furniture Combo Breaker
Prices will be more expensive if Manchester United are at home - so it would be a good idea to avoid those dates.

I can definitely second Robpw2's taxi recommendation, fast service and reliable. I live not far from the quays, and a black cab back after a late night should be around a tenner (but there aren't *that* many black cabs in Manchester on a Friday/Sat night, so I would advise booking a minicab. If you decide to flag a minicab down (not advised) it should have a yellow sticker on the bonnet so that it's defo a proper cab.

Near the Salford Quays you've got the Lowry outlet mall, the Lowry gallery (and theatre), the Imperial War Museum and Old Trafford. If you've got the afternoon spare have a wander round, there's not much walking involved!

    Have a good time :)

Another vote for Salford Quays. I use the Copthorne quite a lot (outside your budget) because the location is good and the trams stop right opposite the hotel.

b.t.w. If anyone is looking for a nice (funky, stylish, cool etc.) but pricey city centre hotel, the Malmaison at the Picadilly station end of Canal Street is absolutely superb.
