Annulment is "Catholic" divorce - I have a civil/legal divorce from my first husband which means I can re-marry legally, however my annulment is still pending. I only went for the annulment because my parents asked me to! My marriage is not recognised by the Catholic church (but that does not bother me as I no longer am practising!)

Still I found the register office made me think far more than the church service.

    Hi,

My partner and I are finally starting to seriously think about getting married. We don't want anything too big. The plan at the moment is to restrict it to a select family group of around 8 people with me and OH on top. I'm not really interested in a registry office, but instead I want something a little special. The idea of finding a small church / chapel in scotland or wales has been proposed with a hotel near by. I'm not that bothered about a church, but I want more than a 'splash and dash' at a registry office.

As you can tell my ideas aren't exactly very well thought out at the moment and was hoping that you guys can come up with some suggestions. Please bear in mind that my OH is divorced, but this was because his ex found someone else (to put it one way).

He isn't bothered were we get hitched, so it is really down to me to come up with a nice plan. Something small, romantic and memorable.

    Thanks for the help.

I've booked my wedding today at Gretna, its really confusing because everyone claims to be the "original" but we've finally settled on Gretna Hall in the workshop (somebody mentioned it earlier) its the one with the carriage in it, we are getting married in February late in the afternoon and you can pay extra to get married by candlelight! It looks really lovely, there are only going to be about 15 guests at our wedding so it will be very intimate.
Hope you find what you are looking for!
  • My husband and I didn't want 'the big white wedding' just an intimate affair just a few friends and family so we chose to get married in gretna. It was really romantic we got married at the register office and then went and had the traditional anvil ceremony. We celebrate 10 very happy years of marriage on the 27th of this month.
We were on a very tight budget at the time and managed to get wed for £250 my dress cost me £12 (it was actually a nightie from Marks & Spencer) My father bought our rings as a wedding present and we didn't bother with a reception we got married and drove off into the sunset to the hotel for our wedding night !!

It's not how you do it that matters it will always be a special day !!!!!!!

OH is now changing his mind over what he wants. I've since learnt that his first wedding was essentially 'arranged' by his then intended (now ex-wife). For some bizarre reason I think he's just realised that he can have some input as well. Me things more conversations are needed.

And they say women are in-decisive....

when i get married (not for several years yet :D ) i quite like the idea of getting married HERE , there's something about that place which just seems magical to me.

my SIL to be looked into it when she was planning her wedding, but dismissed it because the room was "too small" (she's planning on inviting half of wales  to her big day), but if it's intimate that you're after then it could well be perfect.

did i mention that it was set in the middle of a beautiful forest ;) ?

(the welsh name, castell coch, means 'red castle' - its made of pinky red bricks, if any one was wondering)

What a beautiful place. It looks lovely. Do you know how much they charge, as there is nothing on their website to indicate that they do weddings.
