Yarrgghhh!!!! I'm getting married in ummm.... 4 weeks I think
I have a plain ivory wedding dress (£100) and all the gorgeous stuff that a bride usually wears (pretty necklace, hair crystals....super tan
), but it's not OTT. I'm picking up some flowers ,maybe peonies, in the morning from the florist and will tie them together myself.
The plan is us, the children and 16 guests mosey on to a castle in Cumbria. We marry at 4.30pm, have champagne on the lawn then go back into the castle for a 'dinner party'. We are all sitting around one huge table so nobody feels left out. No speeches (they put too much pressure on people IMO) a cake from Marks and Sparks and pictures taken by family.
At 8.30 - 9pm we all wander back to our accomodation (part of the castle) which is self contained, kitchen, lounge, huge dining room etc... The old folk can relax in the lounge, the children can have a 'disco' in the small dining room and like all good house parties....we'll probably hang around the kitchen and large dining room drinking and laughing and eating nibbles and bacon butties.
It's not mega cheap but it's different from the usual 'church, meal, reception' and it's informal but still quite grand. We all get to play in a castle, I get to wear a posh frock and we can all pretend that we're aristocracy
The best thing to do is decide what YOU want, then find somewhere that you LOVE. Then talk them into accomodating exactly what you want.
We're marrying on a Tuesday, it's cheaper and quieter. You get to pick almost any date you want for a midweek wedding.Just run, run and keep on running!0 -

my sister got married a couple of years before i did, in the same registry office but hers was just a secret thing with strangers as witnesses, nothing romantic. she regretted it, she wants the whole works next time, dress, church, etc.
Next time? oh dear. something went wrong thereThe reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0 -
yes, she's already engaged to somebody new. but don't let that put anyone off marriage, i've been married for almost 4 years and we're still just as happy as we ever were, i love being married, it's fab

I'm not that bothered about a church, but I want more than a 'splash and dash' at a registry office.
My husband and I got married in a register office last August and there was nothing splash and dash about it. We chose the register office because he is not religious and I am a divorcee (a young one). I cannot get married in church again as my annulment is still pending. However; on reflection the register office was far more of a solemn occasion than the small church doo I had had ten years earlier. The Registrar commented on how emotional it was as well. So I don't think its the place that matters it's the people and the attitude they approach it with. :rolleyes:0 -

So if an annulment is not final one can still remarry? I always wondered what the difference is between an annulment and a divorce. Someone told me an annulment is when the couple had not consumated (is that the word?) the marriage but that sounds ridiculous to me. I know with a divorce you cannot remarry until the decree absolute is obtained. Sorry to twist the thread slightly. I used to work in a register office when I was a student and these things always fascinated me.The reason people don't move right down inside the carriage is that there's nothing to hold onto when you're in the middle.0
