I have to say that i wont use Tesco petrol or any supermarket. For some strange reason it doesn't last as long, i have to fill up more often. I use shell instead which last me a hell of allot longer than supermarket petrol.

I remember being told this along time ago by a mechanic who said that supermarket petrol doesn't seem to last as long and it is not as good for your engine.I guess now the supermarkets can say they put in cleaning agents.I would have to drive the same roads, same hills, ecomony speeds, good braking, carrying capacity, etc,to see how they measure up.Also of course the tanks will need to be filled identical.Oh I must either hit identical traffic throught my test or find no traffic. Each gear change needing also to be harmony.
I was also once told that the older vehicle counter system for delivering fuels
can run before fuel goes in.I guess the digital ones don't.So I guess watch out if you use a very old garage with not up to date machinery.
On the flip side do you remember a few years ago when Shell brought out the Formula fuel, only for loads of drivers, who were using it on a regular basis, claimed compensation for damage to their engines.I then thought when they got Micheal Schumacher to promote their fuel(in anycase they sponsor ferrari),did we all drive faster then?Funny that, this year I feel like I am driving slower.

I do remember this too well in fact. At the time we were towing a caravan and to get back home we had a hike of a hill to go up. The car always cut out on this hill and struggled to get up it. We stopped using the shell fuel and it solved the problem but we didn't have damage to the engine. It was a simple comment made in passing about the fuel causing engine errosion that made us think maybe it was the fuel and change. I also feel i'm driving slower but i put that down to the fact that when i pick my son up from college the younger drivers belt up the road at a min of 40 mph and brake hard when they get to the junction. I just hope no one is ever crossing the road when they are on their way home. Watching the way they drive has slowed me down and i wasn't that fast before.

Supermarkets put some addertive in which obviously cheapens the petrol but doesn't make it last as long hence they will actually sell more petrol to you than a branded petrol. Hope that makes sense. I also collect air miles with shell 1 point per litre not 1 point per £.
  • they do guarantee to match the cheapest fuel within a 3 mile radius.
But how much will it cost to drive round and check? :)

I don't - I use my free evening and weekend calls to phone them  Then I phone tesco and tell them to lower the price.

I have just come to notice that there might be a problem of using cheap fuels in your car. I currently use tesco, but I must say i am concerned that everyone at my work is complaining about there fuel. I have been reading your post and can say I'm going to fill up with BP and see if there is a difference , I would certainly love to see an extra 4mp.... anyway I will let you no I am currently getting 29mpg .

The way things are going 1 point per £ will be the better deal pretty soon. 92.9p for crappy supermarket diesel. :(
If you're happy to sell it to me at a price I am happy to pay - then I want it cheaper.
