Tesco Fuel SCAM

"We pledge to sell the cheapest petrol in the area and if we aren't the cheapest, we'll refund double the difference!"
This is one of the many statements used by Tesco to promote their "cheapest petrol" policy.
However, while filling up yesterday, I glanced over at the sign by the store entrance and was shocked to see that they were 3p per litre more expensive than the Esso down the road! I stopped immediately and went into the kiosk to ask about it.
I was blunty told that "the price match is only for the main shop side of Tesco" and that "Tesco Fuel doesn't claim to be the cheapest"! This goes against its advertising stance for years!
I've just emailed Tesco about this and hope some of you will too if you're affected by this scam. Email: customer.service@tesco.co.uk

This type of pledge is made by many shops etc end means absolutely nothing at all. We "aim" to have the lowest prices etc, but you still need to check.
I presume they work on the assumption that most people won't bother to check.
However that doesn't explain their reaction when you told them about it. That is simply not good enough and good luck with persuing them about it!0 -
Even when a retailer says "we'll refund the difference if you find cheaper" it doesn't actually mean they are cheapest. It just means they can make good money out of those who assume, but don't bother to check.
Why would they give the discount to everyone automatically, when they can get away with only giving it to those who bother checking up?0 -
They are refusing to give me double the difference!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Perhaps a petrol bomb would do the trick (and make a sick sarcastic point too!)0 -

I knew a bloke who kept a pub and had a condom machine in it.
There were no condoms in the machine, but he made quite a bit of money from it as people were too embarassed to go and ask for their £1 back0 -

Disgraceful. This is an example of the absence of basic morals in today's Britain and explains the kind of yobbos that we breed today.
He should be jailed for 20 years for what is essentially Fraud. :mad:0 -

Note that the long term effect of this is that humans will evolve into a species that are too embarrassed to ask barmen for their condom money back.

Leaving aside this talk of immoral behaviour, I have just received an email fro tesco saying that they do guarantee to match the cheapest fuel within a 3 mile radius of the area.0

For years Tesco have price matched our local Esso petrol station but have recently broke with tradition, charging up to 4p per litre more. [Tesco at it’s worst 85.9p, Esso 81.9p]
Esso have now wised up and raised their price to 83.9p which the last time I looked was still 1p per litre cheaper than Tesco.
Do It To Them Before They Do It To You

I have to say that i wont use Tesco petrol or any supermarket. For some strange reason it doesn't last as long, i have to fill up more often. I use shell instead which last me a hell of allot longer than supermarket petrol.0
