To good to be true?

  • LOL office 2007, the version that doesn't let you open your old files because they are 'unsafe' (including office xp!) well seeing most of my files are created on office xp I won't be giving any more money to Bill Gates, ultimate steal or not. Does any one know if they have removed this suicidal restriction yet?

Whilst I agree Bill Gates is a charitable person in private life it's microsoft's dubious corporate tactics I have trouble with. PC manufacturers have to pay microsoft windows licences even if they ship with linux--if that's not immoral then I don't know what is.

This is not true at all.:confused:

Neither is it true that it won't let you open old files. Until recently I was almost exclusively using old office files with Office 2007 without a single hassle. In fact I decided to convert some of them to the newer standard and they take up a fraction of the space without losing anything.

I think rainbowtrout has been misinformed on a couple of issues. They're certainly wild claims that aren't in the slightest bit true. You can see my earlier point "Some of the anti-MS stuff borders on religious rhetoric so I really can't see the logic".

  • I've just reported them to Adobe cos I was interested in Dreamweaver 8 cos I am learning it at college. Maybe they will be more interested than Microsoft. Haven't bought anything though, reading thier t & c's sounds like they can cancel your account for any reason and without giving you notice. NICE PEOPLE HUH!

What a load of anti MS rubbish. You should either stop spreading rubbish, or if someone has told you this, tell them to stop spreading rubbish

Most anti-MS stuff is propagated by the misinformed, sadly. MS and Windows are not without fault, but people just repeat the same old crap over and over.

It's an outrageous claim about Microsoft, and since they're evil, I'll swallow it whole without engaging my brain.
They say it's genetic, they say he can't help it, they say you can catch it - but sometimes you're born with it

This kind of thing always makes me think of the Feynman quote "keep an open mind but not so open your brain falls out".

Well in case there was any lingering doubt about the company in the OP, I got this response from Xara (who tend to be quite good at responding to questions) who's software is also sold on the site:

    Hi,
Many thanks for reporting this, this site is not authorized to sell our software. Our staff are investigating.
Please do not purchase from this site.
    Regards,
