Vouchers at Tesco - an exercise in frustration!!

My local Tesco has never ever been consistent with their acceptance of manufacturer's coupons. CS would say one and one only per visit - but there were some cashiers that would happily take all and any as long as they scanned.
Then one horrific day I was told by my usual cashier that they'd been instructed to take only one coupon per customer
A few days ago, I thought I'd try and get their company policy in writing from H.O. as others have. At first I got the standard ambiguous reply, so I wrote back......
"Thank you for your reply, however some ambiguity remains as the policy appears open to interpretation. My local store state it is one single coupon only per visit, and I would interpret your policy as being one of each only, ie no multiples.
I would be most grateful if you could clarify this for me.
Thanks."
their response to this was;
"Thank you for your email.
The store have the absolute discretion on whether to accept and in what numbers.
If you have any further queries........."
So..even Tesco HO seem to be now playing the game of MAKE IT UP AS WE GO ALONG
I don't believe in a God-given right to redeem these vouchers, would just like to know one way or another what is accepted and what is not to save embarassment.

I know what you mean, Addy, and not only is it highly irritating, I get quite embarrassed, too as if I'm trying to commit fraud or something

This happened to me in Tesco yesterday and I did look like some sort of fraudster - even when I showed the email and explained their own policy to them, they still made me look like some crook.
It's worse when you have the typical dumb !!!!!! customers standing behind you and staring at you accusingly. Now I use self-service at peak times as there are always problems at the other tills so they can't notice my coupons!
P.S: Has anyone used the Joey £3 off coupons yet, successfully? :rolleyes:0 -
I fear if tesco is bombarded with customers who are always questioning the coupons policy they will decide to not take any at all.
I have also noted Tescos have different policies at each store - but is it worth arguing as it seems to be down to each individual manager.
My local tesco wont take any so I save my coupons and do my weekly shop at a different one.
Tesco will Im sure get sick of constant coupon questions and like many other good deals will pull the plug at all stores.
So why not just find a tesco that will accept coupons, in the long run they will have higher sales figures than other branches. Believe me they are constantly trying to outdo each other as far as sales figures are concerned
Sorry to go off on one. I just fear we will may loose all coupon redemption at tesco if we annoy them.
How about we have a thread which shows which tescos will accept coupons and which wont.
to start-
Mansfield, Notts - oak tree lane will accept 50% of your bill, one of each type
Alfreton,Derbyshire - wont accept any unless you purchase product
Chesterfield,Derbyshire will accept one of each (no limit to amount you can use )but no internet printed ones
Any one want to add any others, Mods would this be better on a separate thread. Thanks to everyone who posts comps :T0 -
Weaver, I think this is a good idea, but could we include other supermarkets too, as they (Sains, Waitrose, etc.) also vary from branch to branch. Actually, I've had different things told me in the same branch on different visits - apart from store policy, it seems to depend on who actually serves you

Burnley Tesco - 10% of total bill - one of each coupon (inc. Sainsburys etc)
Bradford Tesco - accepted coupons (not sure numbers) (inc. sainsburys)
Have used the Joey coupons successfully a couple of times.Total for 2009: L'Oreal Lip Duo, Diary, Motability Guide
Thanks to everyone who post comps - you are all :cool2:0 -
i had the same problem with TEscos - the guy at the counter went through every coupon to check i had them and even went as far as to check through on the receipt.0

In those got a few BOGOF Nestle Finese with the £3 joey vouchers, also they had promotion in store giving 50p vouchers off a box of Finese, so 6 lots of Finese for £2.94 & 6 lots of £3 vouchers
Also used a few vouchers I got from Morrison's for the 1st time, £5 off a Flash mop & £1 off Flash refill, and they scanned fine no probs :j0 -

Gosh that's encouraging! Did you use any identical coupons? If not, where on earth did you find such a lot of [high value] coupons to use?!?!?!
And don't the customers behind you or the staff frown when you hand over a handful of vouchers? It happens to me sometimes

I have emailed Tesco over the weekend to find out if they will accept a £5 voucher off whisky from Somerfield ( grab it while you can thread ) and i got the following reply from them ............
Thank you for your email.
We are currently accepting coupons for Sainsburys and Safeway both in our stores and for on-line grocery transactions. Just hand your coupons to your driver when your groceries are delivered. We'll credit your payment card back at the store. If you are in-store, just hand these to the cashier.
Please note the following:
We can only accept Sainsburys or Safeway branded coupons for money off your total transaction.
We cannot accept coupons valid only for specific products or departments.
We can only accept up to £15 worth of coupons for one delivery.
You must have met any requirements on the coupon, such as a minimum spend.
We can only accept them against grocery deliveries. We cannot accept them for deliveries from our warehouses.
We may refuse to accept coupons if they appear to be damaged, defaced, altered or copied.
This offer applies for a limited period only.
We cannot accept coupons for purchases of tobacco or infant milk formulae.

I trust this information is helpful.
