NTL Dial-up Internet

We hadn't paid the bill for a few months so disconnected our internet service without warning. We have now tried to get connected again after paying the bill and they say that our internet account details are stuck on a surver and days after this they are still unable to connect us.

They also say that we need to get a new disk to reinsatll on our machine because the NTLworld disk that was supplied to us 4 years ago is now our of date. We have ordered it and are still waiting for it to arrive through the post.

I have now joined Gio Internet which I regret doing because I had to call them on a 75p a minute number just to find out what the dial up access number is and to top it all off I have heard about how Gio Internet try to rip off customers by still charging customers long after they have cancelled their internet account. - by the way I paid on a credit card - aren't I a mug.

I know many of you will say we probably deserve this for not paying our internet bill on time but I am just fed up because of all the hassle NTL has now put me to cos I now face a battle with my credit card company and Gio internet.

The only reason I cahanged to Gio Internet was because I was fed up of paying call charges on the 0845 number that you have to dial to use Dell Net and since NTL aren't providing an internet service to me at the moment I was forced to change to a dodgy provider.

I've never had any dealings with ntl, but if you're forking out for broadband, but not receiving any service then try phoning them up & telling them that as they are failing to meet their own terms & conditions of service that you have no choice but to insist on a cancellation.
    It may just work.
The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.

I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.

NTL have now got us connected again but they've cocked up our email account. They've given us a slightly different email address and are now in a situation where email is being sent out by our old email address and being received on our new email address that nobody knows. And nobody is able to reply to our old email address. The mail is just being returned to sender. I know all this becuase I've tested out this fiasco by using my hotmail account.

We feel like just cancelling the whole lot (dial up internet, analogue tv and telephone line) because we are so fed up. And its not as though their prices are that competitive, the bills seem a lot higher than when we were with BT. >:(

    Holty,

I have also had several issues with NTL and poor service. Do NOT accept what these "bullies" say regarding inability to cancel your contract. Like any consumer you are covered by the Supply of Good & Services Act which clearly gives you the right to cancel the contract if the goods supplied are not of satisfactory quality and fit for their purpose. In other words if the system does not work you have a clear right to cancel. What is more you are entitled to claim compensation. If you want to take this path, I would write to them by registered letter clearly pointing out that you are cancelling the contract. Tell them why and claim for any costs you have had (phone calls, etc.). Tell them that they can arrange a convenient time to you to remove the faulty goods at their cost. If they ignore you, you should take the matter to the small claims court (no need for a solicitor).

I hope this helps, but please don't give in to their "false" threats! You are more than protected by consumer law.

    Cheers!

We had NTL they are crap!

My recomendation is Tesco broadband, £19.99 per month for 576kbps ADSL (with free modem) and for an extra 50p per month you get their full update compatable Anti-Virus, Spam Control, Firewall etc.

No problems with them yet & they are cheap.

    Far better than NTL!
