I know theres some legal reason you cannot get advice over the internet so no Im not trying to get free financial advice here if thats what the P.S means.

There is no legal reason you cannot get advice over the internet. I deal with a number of clients I have never met in person and we use email and phone to corrospond mostly. However, there are a number of formalities that need to take place before advice is given. Two of the main issues are "know your customer" and being regulated to give advice. It is against the law to give financial advice when you are not authorised to do so by the FSA. You can see why sometimes when you see some of the "suggestions" that get posted on this forum somtimes. As for know your customer, a 10 line post is insufficient information to give advice based on that.
I also know that my mother gets free advice from a company called chase de vier (sp?) so Im aware that there is abiltiy to do this.

Reaper beat me to it but its worth highlighting again. It is not free advice. It is commission on the products sold paid by the product provider or you pay a fee and get the commission refunded or have the charges lowered to compensate. Commission is how your mother is probably doing it.

There is no commission on cash ISAs so an IFA is going to want to charge you to investigate Cash ISAs.
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.

Heres the direct link to the halifax 5.8%

    http://www.halifax.co.uk/savings/fixedISA.shtml

Your not goign to get FREE advice from an IFA on a cash isa cos they won't get a % from selling you the product.

    Your not alone

I've transferred mine into it, and will be transferring my wifes ISA's this wednessday.

At least I can forget that part of my portfolio for 5 years, locked in at an apparently nice rate !. Not as nice as what I got on my Northern rock TOISA 6% - 4 years in Sept. Now the rates dropped for new accounts to 5.5% ! just a few weeks on. Infact checking the site the whole 4 year locks gone ! Just 1 year at 5.25%, so make sure you act before the Halifax is also gone.
