Thank you...they look great and really simple to make.0

Oh, they look great - thanks so much for the picture! What sort of resin do you use for these?:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0

Re: about the young organisations not getting involved , why not ask if they`ll run a Maggot Racing stall? its easy to set up, all you need is a some handyman to make a track - about the size of a shoebox lid, with about 6 lanes in it for the maggotts to `race`. We did this one year and raised a lot of money, even gave the maggott tracks names ie: Maggott Thatcher, Maggott Dingle, lol
People can even pick their own race maggotts!0 -

They look fantastic. I've already got some clear resin - I was going to stick some artificial flowers in a glass with resin 'water', but this looks like a much better way of using it. Will go a lot further too. Will have to beg some bottle tops from our favourite pub and keep a look out for some fancy buttons and beads. Could I use coloured silver foil (from all those Christmas choccies!) under the resin, do you think? Would it stick to that okay - not having used resin before, not sure what it's like to work with.
Anyway, once again well done and thanks. :T0 -
Glad you like them
You just need some clear casting resin, I got some from hobbycraft, but I should think any model shop will stock it. Don't buy loads it goes a long way.
I really recommend measuring it very carefully, I used little pie tins to get exact 2 parts of one and 1 part of the other bit. Then mix it like a demon getting into all the corners. My first lot never set and had to be binned. They worked great though when I measured properly.
It took about 24 hours for it to set, be careful with cleaning the stuff, I recommend just mixing it in something you don't want to keep, then letting any remainder set and throwing the whole thing away. You can't put this stuff down the drain.
I will get some pics of mine, just a bit manic here at the moment, but I would to see pics of any you guys makexox

This doesn't appeal to me - much too squeamish, I'm afraid - but it might go down a storm with the kids. I'll mention it at our next committee meeting, together with all the other recommendations and suggestions that you have all given me. Thanks everyone.0 -
I'm sure you could use foil, why don't you just make a couple to begin with, with different bottoms to test them? I've kept all the quality street wrappers this year lol no idea what to do with them yet though, they remind me of stained glass and such lovely colours!
Don't you have a button tin tpsjrm?I love my buttons lol
I painted mine but they look nice not painted too, I just used standard acrylic paint and that seemed to work fine. I like the look of the felt at the bottom. Also if you fill some with little beads you won't need to line them.
I got a ton of bottlecaps from just a couple of pubs, if you are a regular I'm sure they won't mind keeping them for you, you'd be surprised how many they get through!"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0 -
Yep, I do have a button tin - inherited my mum's and my mil's as well! Nothing seems 'fancy' enough though. Time for a trawl around the local charity shops.
I've got some lovely pieces of lace, so I might try using scraps of that as well - for girlie ones.0 -
Lovely with the button tin, I'm already planning to pass mine down to any granddaughters and I'm only 32 lol
The lace sounds lovely, and the charity shops - good plan. I've been known to buy stuff just to cut the buttons off! You can get bumper bags of beads at Hobbycraft that don't cost too much."The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0
