  • How about making some fabric shopping bags? You could use cheap calico or lining material to keep costs down. Instructions here: http://www.morsbags.com/

Being in a relatively small community ourselves, we've found that when it comes to getting donations from local businesses, we've found that it pays to go and smile sweetly at them, lol - they'll often respond better to a polite personal request than to a letter.

You of course need someone with the confidence (and time) to do just that.

Thanks for that Earthmother. It might help if we had one or two sexy young ladies on the committee, rather than all us old wrinklies. lol

Ah, but often an elegant more mature lady will put a better image across for an event like this - it's not always about madly fluttering eyelashes, but serenely charming them into giving you (some of) the contents of their stock room.

Send your eldest member - the older shopkeepers will relate, the younger ones won't want offend their 'mum'/'grandma'.

  • I usually take a stall at local school fairs etc. to sell my candles. I always make sure I make some small ones that cost £2, these always sell well. There are probably lots of cottage industries in your area that might like to take a stall, I usually pay about £10-£15 for a stall (offer a discount if they live in your village maybe).

This Christmas I made some badges from recycled bottle caps, they cost next to nothing to make, I just painted them and filled them with beads or buttons or Fimo shapes. I then filled them with clear resin. The resin is the only costly item but you only need a small amount. I looked a real idiot going round all the local pubs asking for bottle caps though lol. The badges were really popular, I sold them for 50p each and they were gone in half an hour. If you are good at cards you will find those a doddle I'm sure! If you want me to send you a picture I will do...

Hi Good Fairy, yes I'd love to see a picture of those bottle-top badges. Do you stick a safety pin or something on the back, to turn it into a badge? Sounds like something reasonably cheap and easy to make a profit on!
  • Sorry guys, didn't check back in until late :D

Will get you some piccies up tomorrow, but yes you just superglue a pin thing on the back, are they called barrettes?... I'll check
