security label

if your case appears with a sticker saying security checked does that mean they have been in your bag (we had these stickers on our cases coming back from Orlando Jan 1st) I found I was an inexpensive present missing and the time before an expensive jacket of my daughters was missing plus some Primark clothes.Seems too little to claim for but it is a nuisance,it seems to happen to us frequently, dont know how to avoid it .

did you lock your suitcase?? TSA rules (this is relevant when going to the USA) not to lock your suitcase, or to use TSA approved locks..

i never lock my suitcase, and i ain't had it searched in years... when it did, nothing was missing, it didn't even look like anything had been moved..
  • Hi Ellie, This makes me mad!It happened to me in Las Vegas last year (apparently happens all the time). I fought with Continental Airlines for months over it as 4 bootles of perfume (prezzies)were stolen and got nowhere. My argument was that if someone can take something out of your bag as easily then it must be equally as easy to put something in...It put me right off going to the States again for a while

Yes, it has been checked by the security services.

elvis girl, your airline was not at fault here, they have no say in who checks your bag and how.
    Gone ... or have I?
  • I disagree. The airline has to take responsibility including any baggage handlers who may or may not work for a separate company. After all if its not their responsibility then whose is it?!

I have had my bag checked 3 times, twice at Chicago and once at San Diego. The only time there was a problem was whan my case was full of dog hair from the tracker dogs that must have been used, either that or a werewolf checked my bag! Not great as I am very allergic and was on my way out so spent the week very itchy.....
I had never heard of anyone have anything stolen during these checks until now. I always use the TSA locks on my case though

if you do lock your case, and it isn't TSA approved locks that are used, they will break them off IF they want to search your case..

out of 11 trips into the states after 9/11, i've had my case searched twice..
  • Stephb1986 if they want to search your case in the US & its locked they'll just bust it open

TSA are NOT baggage handlers. these have nothing to do with the airlines, and to do with the US Government. If you had a huge issue, with things being taken out of your case, then you should have claimed off your travel insurance..

however, they only search on the way INTO the us, not out of, so having bottles of perfume in your case, and these going missing, me thinks it could have happened anywhere. Also, isn't 4 bottles of perfume over your customs limit coming back into the UK???? :D

Good point markymoo, so was it in fact UK customs that searched the case?

elvisgirl, the airline have no responsibility to stop the security services doing something. If you got arrested by the police whilst catching a flight, would you expect the airline to step in and stop them? Of course you wouldn't, the airlines have no jurisdiction above the law!
