Am really hoping someone can help.
I have lost my car key for my renault clio and am using the spare at the moment but really want to get another one cut in case i lose the other one or the battery goes (as it also disables the immobiliser). Having searched the street and my house for my keys that i lost a week ago i finally phoned renault today - and its going to be £150 for a new key!!!!!!!
I can't believe its that much and as a student just don't have that money at the moment , does anyone know if i can get it cheaper somewhere else or if it has to be a renault key (one of the electornic big black keys that disables the immobilier and then does central locking - but also has normal key on end). Renault of course say i have to go to them.

I'm really hoping someone can help!!
Thanks
Amy

P.s i'm extra gutted because i have a bad feeling i have thrown them away with the rubbish last week as i had a clear out of my room :-(

Also sorry if this is the wrong forum - i wasn't sure where to put it

You are quite right to want a second key copy made as soon as possible. If you lose the only key you have, you will probably have to go to a main dealer. It is then likely to cost a lot more than £150. If you are out of the country and lose the key, the hassle doesn't bear thinking about.

Many high street locksmiths/key cutters have the machine that will read the code from the transponder (microchip) embedded in the key, and will program the code into a blank key before cutting it. Look in yellow pages, and give your nearest one a ring.

I paid £24.50 for a second transponder key for my 1997 R reg Renault Clio. I have seen companies advertising on the internet at around the same price - eg Buckenham's Locksmiths, Highbury London, price from £27.50 - London prices are a bit more than where I live!

Oh my goodness - thank you so much!! I really hope they are able to do it. I don't mind even £50 but the thought of £150 , well i just can't afford it at the moment but neither can i afford to have only one key incase something happens to that one.
I'll try my local locksmith and if not then the people you suggested.
    Thank you!!

Does anybody know how I could get an existing Renault Clio key re-coded without having to go to the expensive dealers? I would rather take a trip over to France to get it done rather than paying the dealers here £150.00 Please note I am talking about recoding an existing key and not about getting an additional key.

I am not sure what I did but somehow the little black pod (transponder) got opened and the battery fell out. By the time I realised it was too late and the code was subsequently lost. Now I have to be manually locking all the doors with the key! Very irritating to say the least.

I am wondering also if you guys know where I could get an original manual for a Y reg Clio. Some b

    d stole mine.

    Cheers
