  • Thanks izoomzoom, we really want to use reusables and i have started to research the fitted nappy 'systems' but the choice and variety is just so overwhelming!. we've decided to start off with terries and then move on to the shaped ones when we've got our head round them
  • ooh, and have just sold our wreck of a car this morning so that's £180.00 to put into

the baby fund, i know it's not ebay but we've been meaning to do it for ages and never got round to it so at least i've made a start:j
  • I used terry nappies with dd- they were great- a lot of the older neighbours loved seeing them hanging on the line! They were a present from my mum who was determined i would be using terry nappies! They were brilliant, not a prob at all.
Now im debt free i want to be fat free too!
  • thats a great start Jess

i'm hoping to start my fund off in a few weeks by listing all the maternity clothes etc i bought - my bump just never got big enough for me to wear 1/2 of them.

the other 1/2 i hardly wore as i have been on a lot of bed rest throughout pregnancy :(

i'm hoping to get most of the money back as plus size maternity clothes are hard to get and i ordered quite a few from america.

    fingers crossed

Hiya, I am interested in your challenge and will be watching closely. :)

I will be using real nappies. I have a tumble drier but don't plan on using it very often. I'm lucky though, I have a garden for summer and big south facing patio doors for the winter.

Have you considered double spinning (running the spin cycle again at the end) to get the nappies as dry as possible? I'm sure I've seem quick dry nappies somewhere but can't remember the brand name.

ETA: This is a quick drying one:

  • thanks katgoddess

i'll have a look at the website :T
  • After spending quite a lot in the sales for baby clothes to hopefully do us until at least December 2008 i now need to stop as 1/2 pay has kicked in

From March 2008 when the bump arrives - the challenge i am setting myself is to sell baby clothes / unwanted items on ebay to fund further baby clothes purchases.

This will be clothes only not nappies/wipes etc.

Hopefully as much as possible I will not need to add any further monies to purchase new clothes - but fund all purchases from ebay profits.

Would anyone like to join me in my neutral baby challenge :T ?

Too late to read whole of thread but sounds like a great idea, Im due march the 8th so 2 n a half weeks to go... feels like ive been pregnant forever lol!

Will read rest of thread tom x

some local councils have a scheme to encourage use of real nappies. they provide free or very cheap real nappies for you to try out. it's worth looking on your local council website to see if there's something like that in your area.

Hi, still in very early stages of pg with baby#1 but interested in your challenge. haven't bought anything yet and aren't doing till the first scan. if you'll have me i'd like to join up so i can get started being baby neutral asap. will think of things of ours to e-bay in order to pay for the initial clothes for the baby so am being neutral right from the start.
just a quick query- does anyone use terry nappies rather than the shaped reusables? are they any good?

With it being the 1st baby your get inundated with stuff, people you only see once in a blue moon come out of the woodwork with gifts.

The thing is with the 1st yr, your basically going thorugh 5 age groups, newborn, 0-3, 3-6, 6-9, 9-12, and thats without taking into account the seasons.

Your find that most of the first size items will be given to you via presents etc. x

    PS Congratulations
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx
  • thanks mum2one:D. right haven't posted for a while because i wanted to get to the end of the month and see how my savings were looking. have got £240.00 to date to spend on baby stuff, so am going to keep on selling and saving for a couple of months before i buy anything major (may buy just one or two little things out of shopping budget each month- only because i am too excited not to, plus it's mse). so, on a practical note am going to make a list of everything that i need and work out the total cost (one off buys) plus try to work out a monthly budget for things like wipes, nappy liners etc. all sounds rather exhausting so wish me luck!
