Thanks for that dmg. I have looked at kuoni.co.uk but couldn't seem to find any prices to the maldives under my £2,500 all inclusive with first choice.
This one looks like its gone now

Half term should not make a difference to the Maldives. It is not really a destination for children, and a long way to go when the kids would be due back at school the next day.

regardless of whether it is or is not a destination for children, the prices during half term are more expensive than term time, as saveapenny as quoted, go a week later adn it's cheaper

The deal I found was not cheaper until March. I did double check my facts with a travel agent before I posted!

  • Apologies to Daf, I don't want to hijack your thread and hopefully you have sorted something out. However, we too are looking for a good deal on a weeks holiday in the Maldives. Having not been before we are open to suggestions. This is for our Honeymoon so would need to be relaxing and at least Full Board if not All Inclusive. So far the best deal we have found is with Kuoni for £2225 for two people for 7 nights All Inclusive at the Olhuveli Beach and Spa resort.
I know what people mean about Monarch though!!

Oops, I guess some dates would help! 8-16th june 2008

    A few thoughts -

    * My experience with First Choice flights has been excellent - modern planes, great seats, plenty legroom, good service, direct flights (ie: don't go via Colombo or Dubai).
    * Honeymoon - water villa might be better, for the extra privacy.
    * Choice of island - most people recommend the one they went to, and many people return to the same one every year ! The main complaint I've heard is "it was boring", so maybe they should have chosen a different country altogether ! And it depends on what you're after - some islands have superb beaches, others are better for snorkelling or diving, others have a choice of superb restaurants, some islands are tiny whereas others are much larger and 'jungly'. Some hotels have been recently refurbed, but that could be good (brand new) or bad (less homely, too 'international', too expensive, too 'artificial').
    * Note that June can be quite rainy - especially if you are only going for a week, you may be disappointed with the weather.
    * take your motion-sickness pills !

    any questions, please ask :)

I loved the maldives...PARADISE...We went half board then upgraded to AI on arrival, that was with Portland (Thomsons) we paid about £1300 for 2 adults 1 child for 2 weeks...this time last year :(
I would love to be a Travel Agent :j

Definitely shop around. There are some good deals right now - asking only for £50 deposit.
  • Can you go for about 5 day?

Also check Hayes and Jarvis as they are part of First choice. We found an excellent deal available online by being flexible with the dates and you can get some cashback by going through quidco too.
Another alternative was cosmos but they make you take half board whether you want it or not. We would have forked out for AI until we read on tripadvisor that most people say don't bother at Bandos because the paying restaurants are great and reasonable plus the AI food is all cold buffet and you're restricted to one restaurant between certain times. Unless your on the lash all day I don't think AI is a hands down winner.
Bandos by the way, has free childcare also. Steer clear of Bandos if you dislike sharing your paradise island with nippers. If you have nippers like us then this is the Maldives island for you.
