Beaches in the United Kingdom

It would be great if someone can point me in the right direction. Haven't seen much of the United Kingdom yet and was wondering if you folks out there know of any good beaches close enough to London? Been to Brighton and it is not what I was after.... cheap accommodation spots and activities in the area would be a plus!

Thanks

bournemouth, poole, dorset in general. Hengistbury head is stunning but there are no hotels in the area only private beach houses, although if you veer into Christychurch there are hotels & B&BS etc.

theres also a massive capsite near to Durdle door which is beautiful too.
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...

I'll jump on the Bournemouth bandwagon as well.

We use Boscombe beach (it's free parking on the cliff top). The beach is sand, ideal for children and ten minutes drive from where we stay. If you want a day away from the beach then there are lots of places to try within half an hour
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical
  • My only childhood memory of a UK beach is Chesil beach... think that's Dorset? Christchurch is gorgeous.

  • Camber sands is lovely, miles of sand and sand dunes. There is a Pontins site and also a caravan site which I think is Park Resorts.
You do need to watch when the tide comes in with children and if it is windy the sand blows everywhere.
Rye is nearby that still has cobbled streets etc. and Hastings about half hour drive.Hastings has a pebbly beach but plenty to do.A fishing village, castle and caves etc.
    Hope this helps you.
  • If you can take the wind,Saltburn in Clevelands got a lovely beach and you also on the edge of the north yorks moors and cleveland hills.Accommodation and cost of living dead cheap up here.If youve seen the tv advert "passionate places passionate people" for the north east tourist board,Saltburn is the pier which is on the very last shot of this advert.

Is lovely up here but be warned theres always a wind.unfortuantely for you we a long way from London.

Bournemouths lovely mind,i lived there for a while so can vouch it lovely for a tourist trip
  • I'm sure we're too far away for you to try, but have you any idea just how beautiful the beaches of Pembrokeshire are?
Two have even been nominated in the top 10 beaches of the world - Barafundle and Whitesands - and they are truly stunning.
Accommodation around here is pretty reasonable and there are LOADS of outdoor activities; diving, coasteering, kayaking, climbing, dolphin watching, sailing and of course just walking - we're the only coastal National Park in Britain.
    Tempted yet? :D
