I believe Lebara PAYG service is a new virtual operator (like Virgin mobile)
Any idea which network provider they use within UK ?

Vodafone UK today announces a new MVNO partnership with Lebara Mobile as part of its wholesale strategy. Lebara Mobile is an MVNO that will provide a competitive way for permanently based immigrants in the UK, and migrant visitors and workers to the UK, to use their mobiles to call overseas.

Thanks for this post - I have ordered a sim card as a second card as we have friends in CYPRUS who we sometimes have to call from our mobiles and at 4p to landline and 14p to mobile its dirt cheap from a UK Mobile - so thanks for the post - the website at https://www.lebara.com is very informative.

  • One things for sure their 15p a minute calls to customer service and voicemail are not competitive, plus all international calls are charged per minute.

Note they automatically deactivate SIM cards if you do not use them to make a call or send a text for more than 80 days. These SIM cards cannot be reconnected and the mobile number also stops being available for you to use after this time..

Just a word of warning - I sent for the Lebara simcard (https://www.lebara.com) to enable me to phone friends in Cyprus when out and about for 4p min to their landline and text for 10p - that all works brill and quality is very good, but when they phoned me on it what normally costed them 6 cents - actually cost them approx 15 cents per minute a huge hike. Its part of the Vodaphone group. So UK to abroad is very good at most being 4 or 5p a min to landline but in reverse may cost your friends.

If your calling Cyprus South you can call landlines there for 3p a minute from T-Mobile PAYG using this service: http://www.yourcallworld.com/tmobile/

Lebara is not part of the Vodafone group, but a virtual operator using Vodafone, just as Virgin is not part of T-mobile.

When your friends are ringing you, many phone companies charge UK mobiles as more expensive than landlines

Thanks for the info especially on yourcall, my friend is over in february and has bought a t mobile locked phone for use whilst here how useful is that now with yourcall she can make calls at much reduced prices back to cyprus - and yes you are right lebara are piggy backing on voda network to get it correct, anyways thanks for brill info.
