Money Saving gone TOO far?

My OH even hates the idea of bath, full stop. Never mind sharing water! He thinks that bath doesn't clean you as well as you are washing in dirty water as soon as you sit down. "You are washing in your own dirt".
I had a friend who would not buy anything that is not packed. She only bought apples in a tray and protective foil for example, as she didn't know who touched it in the shop!! (I never pointed out that you don't know who touched it before it was packed either...).
Step too far for me would be to wear the same knickers 2 days running!! :-) Otherwise I cannot think of anything..0 -
and suffer from 'charity shop smell' syndrome.
I didn't want to mention it in case I am labelled a snob but I suffer with the 'charity shop' smell too.
I'd rather buy cheap clothes than more expensive 'designer' and 'up end market' clothes bought from a charity shop.Oh, this wouldn't go in our house either... I buy Costco massive bag of the catering smaller weight ones for 1 cups of teas for my OH to save, but re-using... I think my OH would divorce me if I tried that!
That is something I will do since I am the only one who drinks tea and I like as I call it 'silver tea,' which is tea that has just been shown a tea bag. Strong tea makes me gag. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
I quite often find that we make too much food during the week, especially with things like pasta etc - there's always one portion left over. We freeze these and towards the end of the month eat perfectly by using our "frozen ready meals". Yes we may all be eating a different meal but it's great having very little to wash up and also a healthy meal cooked from scratch that doesn't come out of the household budget!0

Big no nos for me:
Anything but toilet paper
Sharing bath water
Sharing toothbrush
Charity shop shoes
Reusable pads (I can't even contemplate a mooncup)
I'm not bothered about left overs (I'm the only one to feed now apart from the mutt). Second hand clothes are fine, as I'll just wash before use.
I'm sure there are plenty of other things for both lists, but I can't think of any now.0 -
'haunt the supermarkets at closing time to buy up yellow sticker items'
I do this a couple of times a week but only started recently now I walk to work - a small diversion of a couple of minutes takes me to Sainsburys and they fill up their reduced section just after I finish work. And they actually have decent reductions too, everything at least half price. wouldn't bother for the more usual pathetic 20p off you find most places. Buy a few things to go in freezer for next week's meals.
It's good as it means I don't feel guilty buying the more expensive stuff. I've got venison steaks in my freezer now for the price of normal beefburgers, and a lovely Organic silverside of beef joint for Sunday's dinner for £3! Best bargain was a whole chorizo, usually £3.50 from deli counter, only 89p and it lasted us about 3 weeks.[STRIKE][/STRIKE]I am a long term poster using an alter ego for debts and anything where I might mention relationship problems or ex. this thread has made me chuckle, I also hadn't heard of the loo towels! yuk....
Mine are not sharing bathwater, toothbrush and towels. I couldn't see anyone else mention the towels so perhaps just me but it really makes me gag - I don't want to wipe my face with a towel that might have wiped someones bits!:shocked:2019, move forward with positivity! Its no worse than peeing in the sink though. Ive been to a couple of parties where that's happened because the toilet has been 'otherwise engaged' and the bedrooms have been 'occupied'.This is a system account and does not represent a real person.
