Calling Thuraya Satellite Phones - - any tips??

Anyone found a way to cut the cost of calling a satellite phone - I work in Southern Sudan and this is the only way I can call home (costs about $1.50 a minute ) which is OK to a point.

But when my wife rang me our bill was astronomical about £5 a minute from UK

Anyone help with any shortcuts or costcutting tips?

For those of you who are not familiar with Sat phones they have their own country code - Thuraya starts with +88 216 - don't ring one of those numbers by mistake!!

Not quite as simple on a satphone but the principle is sound - Did'nt think of that one :think:

you obviously have an internet connection (unless you are back home again at the moment) so have you thought about using something such as skype to make internet phonecalls?

I am in UK at moment - internet is a rare thing in Southern Sudan - mainly by satlink when you can find it.

Skype would be good for when we get the place up and running properly with some facilities
