Repointing a house - cost?

Just a quick question really, my roof needs re-pointing. I have been quoted £500 for this - including labour, the hire of a scaffold tower and also materials.
The person who is doing it is my boyfriends mate, and he runs his own building company which has been going for years. He has also said that if my chimney needs repointing he will do that, and if any of my roof tiles need replacing he will replace them too.
My question is, is this quote fair? I have a 1936 semi -detached house 2 bed house.
Any help/advice appreciated.
Thanks.:j Buster, Boo and now little Gizmo too!!! :j0 -

We are wanting to get our late 1940s red brick semi re-pointed. I have no idea how much to expect to pay. The three sides need doing. I will watch any reply you get to help give me an idea.0 -
I live in a stone fronted terrace - houses on both sides have had sandblasting and repointing done in last few years. One had the scaffolding/plastic sheeting etc over a few days. And several years later still looks beautiful. The other had a guy on a ladder for both raking out/sandblasting/repointing. Whole thing done in a day last year. Looks hideous, a real pig's ear. Don't believe anyone who says there's nothing to it!
(but it does make me laugh whenever I look at it)0 -
I have had four quotes so far.
1 - £1450
2 - £3500
3 - £1900
4 - £2400
All quoting for the same job.
They all say it will take 5 days or more to do the one side of my terraced house.
It always amazes me how much you pay just for scaffolding, it takes them an hour or so to put up and leave it there. how is that justifying £700 hire for 5 days!MPs left feb '08 276- Dec 13 36 :T MB Jan 10 ~ £82,377 Dec 13 ~ £29987
EMFD was Feb 32  NOW Dec 2013 its Dec 2016
MF new target Dec 16 REACHED!! :j0 -

Hi,I am a bricklayer and I charge £17 a metre for pointing. It is a job that has to be done off a scaffold, dont trust any body who says they will point a whole house off a ladder! You will also find that not all bricklayers will take a pointing job(it can be mind numbingly boring apart from anything else)If you can rake the joints out yourself you may get it cheaper. If you cannot get any one local,or just want more advice, feel free to contact me I'm not that far away from Cov(Coleshill)Good luck.
Dear bricklayer,
Please forward me your contact details. Would you do it in Stradford London0 -

Hi
How much would you charge to repoint a terraced house gable end that is 92 m2, I've had a quote already and think it's a bit steep so want to get more prices0 -
[FONT="]The poor quality workmanship results in the damage to the brick construction. The reason behind this is that the brick requires special expertise and skills to be repointed and repaired. The common mistakes in the repointing London are the spalling, raking, inconsistent mortar and smearing of the mortar. For more info visit repointingbrick.co.uk our website.

Hello,
Sorry if the etiquette escapes me (do not wish to hijack a thread).
Looking for some advice.
End terraced property in merseyside. Two areas (approx 2meters x 1/2 meter each), end gable wall look like pointing has perished.
Have had two quotes i.r.o. £120-140 for this 'patch pointing'.
This work is high up and thus beyond my own ability to tackle.
Essentially the question is this;- two quotes so far have suggested they will use cement and a 'waterproof spray'. My cursory google searches seem to point towards a need to use lime mortar as house is turn of century.
When my wife asked about using lime mortar, both gents so far suggested something along lines of "people want to use lime these days moreso, not sure of the benefits myself!".
Guidance, esteemed views appreciated.
Thanks all0
