need to know the rest of your sys specs mate, and what you use it for etc
fastest agp card pretty much is an x1950 as seen here, but like I say, without knowing the rest of your system and what you use it for that could just be major overkill."If you really want to hurt your parents and you don't have nerve enough to be homosexual, the least you can do is go into the arts."0 -
thanks for that. just contacted scan and they suggested the fx 5200 or 19732.:hello: :j0

What are you wanting to use it for? If its games, the FX5200 isnt a great choice, and Im not sure what a 19732 is."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0

There is no way the rest of the system would be up to score with that card. The Motherboard is only AGP 4x which would seriously cap it. Not to mention the PSU would most likely need replacing. I think a fx5200 is about right, although the 5 series were a bit rubbish, so if one were available I'd personally say go to a geforce 4-unfortunately as they are up to the 8 series this may be very difficult.
Question though, when you say the card is "sickly" what do you mean? It could be another component.Out of my mind. Back in 5 minutes.0 -

Simply not true. There is minimal difference between 4 and 8.
Im not sure why you have a load of recommendations to get a DX8 card, which is dated, while you have the option to get a DX9 card. I dont know how much you are willing to spend, but I would be looking to get something low/mid range, as it would be a waste to spend a lot as the rest of your system could not make the most of it. Personally Id say that a good card for your needs would be a Nvidia 6600GT, if that fits your price."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0 -
Hi, I would just go for the cheapest ATI X1550 card you can get, such as this one (23 quid)
http://www.ebuyer.com/product/139147
. Its more powerful than the geforce 3 card, better than the fx5200 and isn't going to break the bank. No point going for a faster/more expensive card. Otherwise, I would save up, and spend about 150 on new parts which would allow games such as sims 2 to run at a decent speed. You could keep some parts from your old computer, and just purchase a new motherboard, processor, memory, graphics card and hard drive. If you can build it yourself, or have a techie friend then even better!0 -
i would look on ebay for a 6800gt/ultra if i needed agp, they go for about £25 now and will almost certaily play any game the rest of your system can handel assuming the psu is upto it.
the mobo caps out at 1.5ghz athlon xp according to google, if you want anything more modern than quake3 then you would probably be better off grabing a cheap mobo/cpu combo than upgrading existing one.0 -

If you upgrade the bios, it'll take a Athlon XP 2600+, which is an ok CPU. The 6800GT is a good call if the price suits."I'm not even supposed to be here today."0
