Sold a faulty machine that I paid £300 for on ebay, Help regarding refund

Hi
I won an embroidery machine on auction on the 9th january from a private seller. I paid £285 for the machine and £10 p+p so £295 altogether. The seller doesnt accept paypal so I did a bank transfer as I wanted the machine quickly. The machine arrived on tuesday and first of all the power cord wasn't included, so I had to buy one, It wasnt as described as the spool was broken off and placed in a seperate bag from the machine (so obviously not done in transit), and the machine is faulty, it doesnt work at all. I had a machine engineer to look at the machine and quote me on repairing because if it had been under £50 I would have paid the repair, to get the machine working, Hes had a good look and told me there is several things wrong with it. Most are electrical programming problems which he can't fix and these wouldn't have happened in transit, it would have to go back to brother and would end up costing more than I paid for the machine. In the sellers item description the machine wasn classed as
"in good condition" with no mention of any fault. In the listing she has also put "I cannot be held responsible for damage to goods or delays in delivery once the item has left my possesion and is in the delivery system. I do not give refunds!"
I have contacted the seller and told her how dissapointed I am and asked for a refund and she has said
"Firstly I have not sold you a faulty machine it was in perfect working order
when it left here.

I am sure that something must have happened in transit.
If you read the listing, you will clearly see that I cannot be held
responsible for loss or damage once the item has left me.
Also it clearly states that I do not give refunds!"
What can I do. Should I contact the police as isnt this obtaining money by deception.
Thanks everyone
