12month free 12month contract on virgin, coming to an end + a new unlocked PAYG phone
Options
Don't quite believe this, but I've got an order number...
I took out a 12month free contract from OSPS 30th Jan 2007, called Virgin to get a PAC and end the contract on 30 Jan 2008. All fine....
Then the lady said "you have £20 of virgin RED?" you need to redeem this before you port. Asked what this was she said you can get £20 off a new phone or a cheap phone. I went for a cheap Samsung300. I asked if I could unlock the phone as I was terminating the contract she said sure call with the IMEI.
My original handset from OSPS was unlocked.
I had 2 other phones on the same traffic that I ported but was not offered this, so if you are closing your virgin account contract or PAYG it might be worth checking your accumulated red allowance?
So the Handset was paid for from my red allowance, and the P&P is £2.99. Its a PAYG phone, with no SIM. I hope to use the IMEI of this new handset, and get in unlocked next week free as part of closing this contract down.

I'm in exactly the same position having come to the end of 12 month free contract via e2save cashback. I've earned £30 in red rewards. As I hardly use my phone I stuck with Virgin and just transferred over to PAYG asthere don't seem to be many 12 month free deals around with companies I trust at the mo.
Not sure what to do with my bonus free phone - may try ebay!!! It just costs th £2.95 postage.0 -

As you are still with Virgin (I got a 12months free contract from OSPS so lost the £20 x2 Red on 2 handsets) you can claim you free phones or get discounts on a better handset. Remember you can order the PAYG WITHOUT a SIM so that is £5 less. And as you qualifiy for a free unlock make sure you get that done too!Seth.0 -

I'm in this position too and would like to go on to payg.
Did you just ask them to move you on to payg at the end of the contract? and did you get to keep your number?0 -

I asked to end the contract after 12month as I was leaving the country. Saves them trying to talk me out of leaving.
They said fine, after 12months my SIM would revert to PAYG.
I asked for a PAC they send this.
Orange took a while to port over a week, during this time my virgin SIM became PAYG for 2 days then the number ported to Orange and my Virgin SIM was invalid.
1) Backup your contacts from the Virgin SIM
2) Check your Red credit when you cancel and order a cheap phone
3) Phone Virgin as SOON at your get the phone and ask for a free unlock
If you do not port your number just keep the Virgin SIM as a PAYGSeth.0 -
What number do you call to get a PAC from Virgin? I'm in the last month of a 12 month deal and am looking to change.0
