As I previously stated it could be your display, ie not enough colours depth or it may well be wrong driver etc.
I have tried a DVD and the same poor screen image is there. Mpgs won't play correctly either! The DVD did not use Media Player, hence it must be something wrong with the graphics card, wouldn't you think? Ironically, the same shop that fixed the processor fan had previously had to replace the graphics card, whose fan also burned out. And this after two years of trouble free running. But what on earth goes wrong with a graphics card to give this negative-quality image?

  • I'd agree with Shrek. It sounds like the drivers for your graphics aren't set up properly, or are missing. You should download the latest drivers, and then check to see what's happening. You could be running on default windows drivers.

    Criminal/Shrek,
I suspect you are both right. Tried all the suggestions above and nothing works! As I said before, the original graphics card had to be replaced by the shop prior to the total system failure. I had to supply all my disks this time around so that a complete re-install of all software could be undertaken. If the new graphics card was not supplied with a driver disk, then the man in the shop might just have forgotten to test whether that part of the machine was working correctly!
I have never downloaded or installed a driver in my life! (Haven't lived!!). So, how do I go about finding which graphics card I have on the system and then getting the drivers?
    Thanks for your patience!

Can you tell us what video card it is. To check what driver is loaded go into control panel and display then settings tab. It should show what driver you have and what colour depth it is.

If you can fine that info sound slike the right driver is installed. It could be an older version of the driver but it should still display the correct image, even XP using its native Nvidia driver should display the correct video.

You can get the latets drivers from nvidia.com web site. Just select xp and gforce card
