FAT 32 resolved

A while back, I posted a threat regarding the tendency my computer had to instigate searches of a FAT 32 file, despite the fact that, being Windows XP, it should even have! My computer eventually wouldn't boot and I therefore had to take it into the shop to be repaired. I was told that there were essentially two problems, which seemed to be related.
1. The fan on the processor, despite the fact that it was rotating, had caused the final crash of the system. Having AMD chips, the heat being generated was not being cooled sufficiently, hence the computer could not boot.
2. The presence of the FAT 32 file was due to the fact that Multivision had fitted a mirrordisk, essentially allowing the computer to be wound back to ex-factory condition if so required. Why this was fitted when XP allows you to do something similar is not readily understandable!
The guy in the shop also speculated that the overheating was probably causing the endless FAT 32 disk scans to be prompted too.
Anyway, problem now resolved and thanks to all those who suggested solutions.

However, I now have a problem with my Windows Media Player. Any attempt to watch anything, either stored on the computer or on disk as an mpg, results in an almost negative-style picture. It is too bright, so definition is poor. Since everything on the computer was taken out and reloaded to eliminate the above problem, is there any easy fix to this problem, or should I once again go back to the shop?

Is this only media player? If the graphics are ok on other applications, then the problem lies only with media player, and a reinstall or uggrade may be the quickest solution.

Sounds like either not enough colour depth for display or not the right codec.

Display should be 32bit have you checked you got the right display. For codec try this pack
    http://www.codecpack.com/

Download the all in 1 its free.

Its a piece of code written that allows a video/audio format to play in the correct way it was originally intended to play.

Short for compressor/decompressor, a codec is any technology for compressing and decompressing data. Codecs can be implemented in software, hardware, or a combination of both. Some popular codecs for computer video include MPEG, Indeo and Cinepak.

Upgraded to Windows Media Player 10, but still the almost negative-style moving picture remains. Static graphics appear to be ok. Any thoughts?
  • Is this one particular file, or a number of movie files? What format are they/it?

Not true. I only have 16bit colour depth and have no probs with display.

I have tried a DVD and the same poor screen image is there. Mpgs won't play correctly either! The DVD did not use Media Player, hence it must be something wrong with the graphics card, wouldn't you think? Ironically, the same shop that fixed the processor fan had previously had to replace the graphics card, whose fan also burned out. And this after two years of trouble free running. But what on earth goes wrong with a graphics card to give this negative-quality image?

16bit colour 65536 colours doesnt show all the colours that a photo or motion picture usually requires but 32bit or 16million colours will, so you may miss the subtle tones.
