Can I return item without original box?

Options
Bought my daughter a camera for christmas and still have receipt from ASDA but not the original box as we tried the camera, seemed okay so binned it.

However, when we came to try the camera further using it inside the house, the 5mp quality was way off the mark. The photos were grainy and much poorer quality than my current 3mp camera.

When we tried it at a show with the flash, I couldnt even see my son who was sitting right next to me. I tried the photo anyway thinking he would show up once the flash went off and it was so dark , you would think I had taken it without a flash at all.

Upshot is, I paid £40 and still have the receipt but the camera is just not usable. Will they take it back if I havent got the packaging if I explain?

Thanks

they wont take it back unless there is a fault with it

becuase your not happy with the quality with the photos is not their problem - thats the camera not a fault and is to be exprected for a camera that is only worth £40 irrespective that its a 5mp

I can see what you're saying and realise £40 isn't that much but it is completely unusable with the flash, even if the person is right next to you. It has a nice size viewing screen at the back and you can't make out a person in it if it's dark

Just because it has a high number of megapixels does not mean it will be a good camera. It needs to have a good quality lens.
    Come on you Irons
  • Have you tried taking it back to asda and informing them,

I've found them very good when it comes to items like this,or any items actually.

I dont mean to be patronising, but the comon beleif with the public is that more megapixels make better pictures, this is a myth , you could get a say 2mp Canon vs a 10mp el cheapo camera and the Canon would take far superior pictures.

Do youself a favour and get a branded camera, like Fuji, Canon etc it will be possible but you may need to spend £30 more

I would try ringing up head office customer services, see what they say-hopefully they will allow you to return it for a refund or exchange.

I would take it back to Asda and show them the pictures and ask them to return it to the manufacturers to see if it's faulty. Asda will probably just offer to exchange or refund.

I bought a £25 5mp Vivitar camera over a year ago for 12 year old DD (Superdrug had them on offer). It's a cracker and takes lovely pictures for her purposes, with or without flash. It's much better than our now tired Samsung 2mp camera. Downside is it eats batteries so we use rechargeable.

What's the make and model of the 3mp camera?

You could try correcting the pictures using Picasa or similar
