Absolutely but it would have saved a lot more hassle if RM had accepted that it wasn't mine, I didn't want it and if they had checked they would have seen for the post code two digits of the house number was missing i.e. I live at 1 and this was for 111 according to RM!
as i said barring the other stuff. i find it more and more irritating dealing with poorly addressed items.
every day i mark peoples letters/parcels to show they have the wrong address, please amend etc etc
yet every monthy the same bills, letters, ebay packages etc arrive with the same wrong addresses.
i go on holiday/different duty and the covering postie doesnt kow the 'real' addresses so these items are either misdelivered or returned to sender.
then i have to deal with the complaints.seems sorting out the address is more work that just phoning rm to complain0 -
I've had Royal Mail deliver a parcel to me incorrectly. It was early morning and I just signed without checking name of who the parcel was addressed to. When I realised it was for my house number and street name but a different name and post code I rang up RM. They said "not our problem we delivered it to the best address". They didn't care that it wasn't mine. I rang TS to see what to do and they said to ring RM to collect it back and if they refused again write to them and give them a deadline and advise them that if they failed to collect I would dispose of. Weeks later I had heard nothing and again at the crack of dawn the door bell goes. It was RM. They were wondering if a parcel had been delivered incorrectly to my address as the proper recipient was annoyed that it had been signed for but not delivered to him. Could have saved everyone lots of stress if RM had come and collected it when I asked the to. Wonder what was in it?
RM/PF deliver to addresses, not people, therefore they were correct in what they had done and as you accepted delivery then they had fulfilled their contract with the sender - they had no reason to collect the item.0 -
i live in bury lancs and have had loads of letters for the same address in bury st edmunds. mainly if the letter doesn't have a post code.
last year i recieved 12 tickets to the grand national. i never even noticed the name on the front i just opened the letter.
luckily the guy is in the phone book, i managed to get hold of him and we rearranged delivery.
we've had 6 posties over the last year. we've had the same one now for 4 months, but noticed tht i had a newone this morning. i'm hoping the regular guy is on holiday as he's really helpful0 -
Recently I had two orders sent from the same retailer on the same day, one arrived but the delivery man said he was on overtime so didn't have a book for me to sign, did I just want to take it as it was? I said okay. The other package I never received. At least everyone else seems to be getting their incorrectly delivered things without any damage done to their property.
At the beginning of Jan, post-woman tried to deliver special delivery letter. I was upstairs and didn't get to the door in time. She knows I've fractured my spine because she's complained before at me taking a ridiculously long time to answer (in the middle of the street), and having that injury means I can only move very slowly and carefully.
Knocking turned into full scale banging, then with one final shove it stopped. It was so noisy I thought she'd put a jiffy parcel through, but to my surprise there was only the RM collections slip hanging out of the letterbox. Oh, and the letterbox hanging out of the door, too.
Now my door has a gaping hole in it, she managed to rip the letterbox half off. So much for getting a door that insulates, taped over the hole to keep the wind out, still freezing though. And welcome to burglar's paradise! They only need stick their hand through, reach up and they've undone the front door....
I don't have the money to fix it at the moment, not that I know what to do about it anyway. I complained, including photos, the same day. It was in writing, delivered by hand to the RM office here. I asked them to get back to me within 14 days.. It's day 15 now, so I'll have to grin and bear the irony of sending them something special delivery on Monday.0 -
so your saying a woman pushing a small red card through your letter box was enough ot damage it in full servicable condition?
as for taping the bag of the letterbox up.this is technically an inaccesable address..you could then complain you never got a card as it was left in the gap between the outside and the inside you taped up0 -

I think she's implying that the postie has an anger management problem and took it out on the letterbox. She's taped it up because it's now broken and she can't afford to replace and is awaiting RM response to her letter.~Laugh and the world laughs with you, weep and you weep alone.~:)

What most here seem to fail to realise is that RM/PF deliver millions of items of mail a day very successfully, if the delivery person spent 10 minutes at every address waiting for an answer (which might not happen as the recipient could be out) then they would only get a fraction of the items delivered per day. Then costs would raise. We are very lucky in the UK to have a postal service which is as good value for money as it is - try getting an item from north to south for 34p any other way!!!
It does not matter who you use, every courier has good and bad, just as in every other walk of life there is good and bad. It is a shame when items go missing, but to be fair a high proportion of people send valuable items 1st class for pennies rather then paying a bit more to send via special delivery.
We should be thankful for what we have, as the alternative is far more expensive and would not cover 100% of UK addresses as RM does!!!!!0 -
Hiya, I thought I would share my horror story that had a happy ending
Last year for my hols I ordered £2.000 pounds worth of euro's through my bank to be delivered to my address. Well it turned up the next day with the postman shoved through the letter box - and I was at home waiting for a courier to say sign here! I was well shocked, I don't think that postman knew what he was delivering! If winter comes, can spring be far behind?
Spring begins on 21st March.0 -
we have had large amounts of cash through the system.sometimes special delivery and sometimes normal post;.
TBH i usually try and get it out with a driver than a postie risk getting attacked incase anyone knew the cash was coming0
