HI, i came back to bt september last year. and in december i changed to option 1 from option 2. at no time did they tell me on the phone it will cost you £141.70 for changing options. the customer service person never told me on the phone and if she had i would have said don't bother changing it. i never got a copy of there terms and condition through the post (i think cause of the post strikes.) i didn't know this option had a 12 month contract, So how is it my fault. I asked them to just change me back to option 2 but they said no you have to pay the fee. I think this charge is crazy. please help. i have wrote them a letter and email them. carl.

Its an 18 month contract.
Even then i cant see how a charge of £141.70p has arisen. Did you sign up for other add ons. Can you break the figure down0 -
I didnt sign anything. they say it is a 12 month contract. all it says on the bill is......BTT2 Mutch Special Offer(Term) £141.70.
i have no add ons. just change from opt 2 to op1.

When i say sign up did they offer you Option 2 Free Evening and Weekend Calls and did you accept their offer.Or did you ask for basic Option 2 at £3.45p a month.0 -
Hi there...
I thought I would google this as I didn't understand why I had been charged...
I have just received my latest bill and all it says is BTT2 Mutch Special Offer(Term) for £130.55.....
This is very random and I do not believe I have changed anything on my account other than getting BT to own up to the countless mistakes they have made with my account. Luckily I have all the emails they have sent to me regarding that matter.... I shall be calling them tomorrow.
If this is indeed a charge for changes to the account then they werent made by me but a stupid BT advisor.

In late November, my wife phoned BT to inform them that we were moving house and got talked into switching us over to BT Together Option 2 with an 18 month contract.
We never received the Terms and Conditions through the post. I've now found out about exactly how bad these T&C are (I visited the webpage after their customer services people told me that it would cost £260 to switch).
BT are now saying that we're outside of the 7 day cooling off period, but it doesn't seem right that they can make up whatever T&C that they want, not send them to us, and we're bound by them. Am I right in thinking that the 7-day cooling off period only begins once written confirmation has been recieved? In which case (since we've never recieved a written copy of the T&C or even a written letter informing us of the change of call plan) we are presumably still within our rights to cancel?
Anyone know what the exact legal position is on this?
(If I wanted to argue this in the offensive rather than the defensive, I could turn round and say that by entering into a contract to supply me with a phone line, they are subject to my standard T&C, which involves... well whatever I fancy really? I don't see any reason why their T&C should take preference over mine...)0 -

Nope, its 7 days from when the service is activated.
As for the T&Cs, as you are buying their service then you are bound by BTs terms, they arent buying your service.
At least thats how I would understand it to be.The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20 -

I know that's what BT are claiming, but I don't think it stands up under consumer law:

"You also have a further three months to cancel if you were not given all the necessary written information. If the trader gives you this information late - but still before the three months are up - you will have seven days to cancel from the day you receive that information"
Yes, I know it looks like I've answered my own question, but I just wanted to check with someone that might know the legal position better than me...0 -

We only signed up to BT last week and our phone went live yesterday afternoon - VM have finally agreed after a month of stonewalling that our property is serviceable and we can transfer our services. As a result, unfortunately we are going to have to cancel BT (I say unfortunately as they have been really helpful and a straightforward process unlike VM but VMs cable internet is better than ASDL). Does activation refer to the line going live or when we phoned up last week?
Many thanks

PS - We have received the DD instructions but nothing else so far. I think Corporate Britain assumes everyone has internet access these days which is not the case and they should continue to provide written T&Cs.0 -
The 7 days I mentioned is for the special offer, not the actual service of the line. BT WILL hold you to the contract in your case I would imagin. The "Bloodlust" Clique - Morally equal to all. Member 20

the same happened to me they charged bout 150-200 quid for changing options, so i rung up and gave them a right roastin tellin them that i had no paperwork or contract for a 12 month option, suprisingly, after speaking with the boss, they apologized and knocked it off, so stand your ground! they will try what they can, coz there losin too many customers0
