There is no rule that says you can't run a credit balance on your Egg card, or any other card for that matter.

Just a warning here about credit balances.

I have been told by Nationwide (I checked 3 times) that credit balances are not insured. i.e. if YOUR money if fradulently used then it's not covered by their policy.
Their policy only covers THEIR money.
Now I went through the policy with a fine tooth comb and it didn't specifiy, but I did check with them about this many times on the phone.

It may be different for other cards, but I would warn people about keeping credit balances on their credit cards for long periods of time. I am specifically referring to credit cards that are not designed to be in credit. It is probably different for hybrid cards llike Egg Money that are meant to be used this way.

    Hi,

I work for abbey so know all the ins and outs...

Basically if your a non abbey credit card customer you will get.

0% balance transfers for 13 months
    0% purchases for 3 months
5% cashback for supermarket shopping (not including petrol) in the following stores - Morrisions, ASDA, Tesco and Sainsbury's. The cash back is credited to your account, and you can only get up to £50 in cashback. Avaliable till 31/07/08

As an exsisting Abbey credit card customer (whos credit card is owned by MBNA) you will get.

0% balance transfers for 9 months
    0% purchases for 3 months
5% cashback for supermarket shopping (not including petrol) in the following stores - Morrisions, ASDA, Tesco and Sainsbury's. The cash back is credited to your account, and you can only get up to £50 in cashback. Avaliable till 31/07/08
And if you transfer a balance from your exsisting MBNA credit card of £1000 or more you will get a £50 cheque in the post for doing so.

So where does my case fit into this? I got offered £100 if I took out the card and transferred £1000 or more. I wasn't aware I had an Abbey credit card but may have done in the past. I have an Abbey current account that I don't use.

EDIT : I guess the first case example is me - and is missing the £100 back for a £1000 BT in the detail.

EDIT 2: But it can't be that because I have been offered 0% balance transfers for 9 months - which is the second example. Anyway - I'll give it a go!
  • Hi

But the Balance Transfer is free if doing it to your new Abbey Card as part of the deal.... Just to be clear - in case it was not a general question about Balance Transfers.

    My offer is :

£100 to spend as you wish when you make a transfer of £1,000
0% for 9 months on balnace transfers and no transfer fee
Up to £50 cashback on your supermarket shopping
0% for 3 months on purchases
    No annual fee.

I have a current account which I don't use and I don't have an Abbey credit card... not that I know of anyway - I don't get any bills!
