Ulster Bank - £150 free when you switch your account

My ISA is with yorkshire building society although I should have changed it - it currently pays out 5.8%, a full 1% better than UK on my 10-15k amount. Savings are done with halifax mainly through laziness although, at 6%, it is better than average.2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -
I've just seen that as of 18th February all Ulster Bank savings rates have gone down again. I'm now losing out on 1-1.5% interest! Must be how they are buying new customers! :mad:0

None of the local banks get close to the market leaders in rates so I would not lay blame specifically with UB.2 + 2 = 4

Not too impressed with Ulster Bank at the moment.
Made out a cheque recently which put me in the red for my account by £1.70. (didnt realise i was so low on funds).
Anyway they hit me with a £30 charge
Was bullin'. Had funds in the account a few days later (as per normal) so it wasnt as if as i was in debt to them for long/ or by much
This happened to us and they bounced a cheque. I wrote a stonking letter to the manager of my branch and got the fees refunded, a written apology and a phonecall to apologise as well. Definitely complain.
Having said that, I find the Internet banking good and ther service fine - I don't expect to make a lot of money on my current account and I don't keep my savings with them.“the princess jumped from the tower & she learned that she could fly all along. she never needed those wings.”

Nonsense! As the title of this site suggests... it's nothing more than consumer revenge! What's unethical is that the banks used to get away with charging us £25 for something like issuing a letter. In reality it probably cost them £1 to do so. Nowadays they get away with charging us £12 for the pleasure.
The hypocrisy lies in the fact that, as one poster pointed out, in the past they treated you, the customer, as though they were doing you a favour. Nowadays they bend over backwards to be nice to you and have kitted their branches out to be all warm, inviting and friendly. It's been a long time coming.
I've opened an account with them and will await with interest to see my £150 appear.0 -

I use their on-line banking a lot and have all my accounts with them, ie. current, savings, ISA and mortgage and I'm happy with the service I receive but it irritates me that they use the profits they make from me to entice new customers yet give nothing to their existing loyal customers. I understand why they offer the £150 to new customers for switching but I don't feel it's fair to existing customers and is making me think of switching elsewhere! How do other existing customers feel?
Get your revenge on them - move your accounts to a bank that does offer an incentive for new customers. Close your Ulster Bank accounts. Vote with your feet!
Consumer revenge is a powerful weapon! :money:0 -
hi i am due to open an account with ulster bank - everything is being finalised 2moro.
i did spot a few clauses such as:
to get the full £150 you have to open a savings account and deposit £50 - the £150 will be paid in 3 installments (once a month) - providing you pay at least £500 into your current account each month.
i am currently with halifax - the only reason i am moving my current account is to get the £150 cashback! - I am gettin my oh to switch too - we will be £300 better of by the end of June this year!
you also have to keep both the savings account & current account open for at least 12months (thats what the small print said - although the girl who opened my account didn't mention this!)
