Ulster Bank - £150 free when you switch your account

I'm curious about this - my dad is in his seventies, and operates a number of accounts with different banks throught internet banking. The only one he never needs assistance with is the Northern Bank's.nosey_biatch wrote: »I'd say there wouldn't be much in it between the First Trust and the Northern Bank!!
What was wrong with it? And when?

I don't agree as I didn't do anything illegal, immoral or unjustifiable. I switched bank accounts, realised that what the bank was offering was worse than what I had initially. I had real plans to switch to this account but there was nothing of interest and when all the gloss of initiation had worn off I realised I had made a mistake.
If it genuinely was a mistake, it is understandable. I do have a deep dislike of people who open an account solely for the 'sign up' money with the intention of closing it asap. It may not be illegal but it is working the system in a fashion which will ultimately mean that honest customers lose out.2 + 2 = 4
except for the general public when it can mean whatever they want it to.0 -
cant you have several "Sleeper" bank a/cs with very little in them, then just switch you wages, and quote one of the "sleeper" a/cs with few or no standing orders, then close a/c when youve got the £150.
Nationwide offered £100 a few months ago, without the need to switch wages.0 -
Not too impressed with Ulster Bank at the moment.
Made out a cheque recently which put me in the red for my account by £1.70. (didnt realise i was so low on funds).
Anyway they hit me with a £30 charge
Was bullin'. Had funds in the account a few days later (as per normal) so it wasnt as if as i was in debt to them for long/ or by much    :mad:0 -
The exact same thing happened to me man, I was stung for over £200 of charges since switching to a UFirst account with Ulster Bank. I wrote a polite letter detailing exactly what charges were made, and got refunded last week.
I addressed it to the "UFirst Specialist" so that it didn't get put in the 'hold' pile of people reclaiming charges. Just make sure to tell them a staff member told you you had a buffer on your account to handle small unexpected overdrafts, but it must not have activated.0 -
I'm thinking of switching to Ulsterbank. I just opened my first current account about 2 weeks ago (with First Trust) then heard about this. I'm a student, I have no debt- trying to get through uni without any- so far so good! I'd just be using the account for buying stuff on amazon and general spending, not as my main savings account. Do you think it's a good idea to do the switch and get the money in my case?

I switched to Ulster Bank over two years before they offered any switching bonus. I use their on-line banking a lot and have all my accounts with them, ie. current, savings, ISA and mortgage and I'm happy with the service I receive but it irritates me that they use the profits they make from me to entice new customers yet give nothing to their existing loyal customers. I understand why they offer the £150 to new customers for switching but I don't feel it's fair to existing customers and is making me think of switching elsewhere! How do other existing customers feel?0

If you want to get anywhere near the best possible retruns on savings and ISA, you definitely need to switch from UB anyhow - their rates are shocking.2 + 2 = 4

I see better rates with other banks but with interest penalties if you want to access your cash! Once I move to England I'm thinking of going with Northern Rock-at least that way my cash is guarenteed or buying some gold! Or possibly Alliance & Leicester, who do you bank with Talksalot?0
