Remember when searching for flights that not only might you be able to get a cheaper flight from an airport that is not so close to your home, a different airport may have much cheaper parking, may have a better selection of hotels for an overnight stay before your flight, may have faster check-ins etc, etc.

For example, Kent International Airport operated by EUjet is often overlooked as an airport to depart from..... stuck way out in East Kent! But hey, the parking is around £30 for a week and check-in is as short as 30mins. Combine this with flights from around £20 each way and its worth going round the M25/M2 to get there.

I used the flight checker this week (for the first time) to buy tickets with bmibaby. Thank you for providing this useful money saving tool.:A

  • The fllightchecker is fantastic. Used it to visit my brother in Ireland for peanuts. Don't assume that it's the be all and end all though. There are so many foreign airlines out there , don't know if there's any way of including them in the price trawl? We're using HLX to visit Munich later this year and Zoom for Canada next year. Not exactly Ryanair prices, but marvellously cheap for where we want to go. Skyscanner has a great list of airlines covered, even Hapag Lloyd Express, but no mention of Zoom and if you type in where we want to go in Canada into Expedia or Travelocity you get a nightmare route at three times the price.

If you live in the north of England or southern Scotland, don't forget that the school years, and therefore holidays, are not in synch. We have found a lot of cheaper "out of season" prices by flying from over the border.

  • Does anyone know of cheap flights to Osaka in Japan? Have tried flightcheckers and many airlines but as not every possibility is listed thought I would just ask if anyone had flown there on a cheap ticket from somewhere that I may not have tried?? Thanks in advance!

With Ryanairs cheap flight offer recently I realised that they have a lot of flights within Europe too, so it's easy to fly to Girona then perhaps on to Rome then home from Rome. Their web page with the map shows all their major centres and destinations.
  • Im looking for the best deal with flight only from Birmingham to Lanzarote next August 2006. It seems that the cheapest ones at the moment all want to charge an additional fuel surcharge fee on top of the price advertised. How do the airlines justify this for a flight taking off in 10 months time? How do they know what their fuel costs will be so far ahead? When would people suggest would be the best time to book such a flight. I'm flexible where I would fly from if all the additional travelling costs, parking costs etc to other airports are worth the effort, because of the savings made.

Can I add, STA Travel for students / young people (obv not everyone, but savings can be huge so worth mentioning).
EG I'm looking to book flights from Manchester to NY next May, BA are quoting me £519.70; STA want £389.70 for THE EXACT SAME FLIGHTS!!! All you need is an ISIC / IYTC card.
That's £130 saving for the sake of an £8 card :j (which gets you loads of discounts whilst travelling anyway!)
Flights can be booked online or in an STA travel shop (found in most Student Unions)
  • Can somebody please tell me when the 2006 flights will be available on line for the above cheapflight companies.

    Thanks
  • This is my first experience of using a message board so hope I do OK!

I was searching for a flite from NI to US for later in the summer and found a US website which seemed to be about £150 cheaper than the usual consolidators like expedia and travelocity etc.

    EU flites also seem cheaper

It's https://www.orbitz.com and altho it asks if you are EU resident this seems only to be for data protection purposes.

You are chged in US$ but if you use card shouldn't be a problem esp if you take Martin's advice and use a Nationwide debit/credit card which have no commision /loading chg for Forex transactions.

I am not able to confirm my travel yet so haven't booked but plan to use this site when I do- would be interested if any one manages to use it meantime

    All the best
