How Long to Wait?

Well, I've sold my item now, the bidding is over anyway. As it's collect and cash only, I'm rather in limbo until I hear from the lucky winner though. How soon should I expect to hear, or rather I guess, how long should I give them before worrying that they've vanished ?

Send them a nice email thanking them for bidding and winning and asking them to contact you at their earliest convenience to arrange collection. If no reply by say Mondat/Tuesday then a sightly stronger email.

Thanks. You'd think that someone who bid at the last minute (literally) so obviously knows what they're doing and has good feedback would reply immediately, but not yet...

They may have used a sniping tool (piece of software, or a web site that will bid for you at the last second), so may not have been on-line at the time. Or they could just be busy, etc.

There's lots of different one's available.

I personally use auctionsniper, but there is a small fee to use that (about 12p per succesful bid IIRC).

Others use goofbay which is free.

And if you do a search on here, you'll find several more. :)

Well my 'buyer' contacted me - with a problem - this morning, but assures me they'll be able to pick up the item by the weekend at the latest. Is this reasonable, the bid closed on Friday ?

This is my first exposure to ebay, and only goes to confirm what I thought all along - that it's more hassle than it's worth. Is that right, or am I being unlucky and unfair ? Do most transactions go smoothly or not ?

  • At least he's agreed to pick it up, be thankful for that :p

If it's not too much hassle for you to keep it til the weekend, then the up side is that you're selling it and haven't got an idiot bidder.

Personally I would say it's fair. Sometimes events can get in the way of any sale, whether you are a buyer or a seller, so I always try and give people the benefit of the doubt. The important thing is communication. if the buyer/seller checks out (i.e. if they have good feedback, etc.) then you probably have nothing to worry about.

I think you are being a bit unfair. It's not as if your transaction has gone unsmoothly has it? :) You didn't specify in the auction that you expected the buyer to pay for and collect the item straight away, so collecting it within a week doesn't seem that terrible does it?
