My OH lives with his dad, sister and nephew in a five bed house. His dad who is in his 80s has applied for a 1 bed flat. Will the rest of them able to apply for a 3 bed place or will the council split them?

Is your OH and his sister named on the tenacy agreement? If they are then they could stay in the current house, although I can't see the dad being high in the queue to get a 1 bed flat then.0

well I would think my OH is as he has had to in the past apply for lower rent.0

As council properties are allocated by a points system I can't imagine your OH father having much points. Unless he has medical needs and has to move to a care home or sheltered housing I can't imainge him getting a new house. The other option would be an exchange - i'm sure there would be loads of people willing to swap there 1 bed flat for a five bed house. However his would leave the rest of the family on the street.
Without seeming nosey, why does he want a 1 bed flat?0 -
Apparently he isn't weel.
The council have been talking for ages about moving them to a smaller place but haven't heard anything for a while. Someone else too over some time ago.0 -
If he has applied for a one bed flat it sounds like he doesn't want the others living with him any more.
He would have some priority for downsizing whether he got one bed or three bed place. If he is not well does he need an adapted place?
I don't understand what you mean.as he has had to in the past apply for lower rent.

Someone will have to contact the council and ask what the present situation is. Are they still on the list? Who is keeping a check on these applications? If they live in an area where you have to bid for the properties is someone looking every week? The council have been talking for ages about moving them to a smaller place but haven't heard anything for a while. Someone else too over some time ago.Torgwen..........

his sister doesn't pay anything towards the rent. But i would think if my OH had to ask for a reduced rent coz of his income then he is on it, I'm prob wrong though.
I think it's more to do with his dad claimimg stairs but that restricts were he could move to anyway.0 -

His dad would have some priority if he has problems with stairs. He would also have some priority for taking a smaller property.
Paying rent or asking for a lower rent doesn't mean your OH is necessarily on the tenancy agreement.
Is your OH helping his dad to get rehoused? Someone should be helping him. Has he applied to Housing Associations as well as Council?
The other three would have some priority if OH's dad gets rehoused as they would be homeless.
Someone should be chasing up the Council/Housing Associations in the area. If no-one is doing that then OH's dad or OH/sister perhaps need help with this through Citizens Advice and/or Shelter. His dad also might get help with any official people he comes into contact with through not being well.Torgwen..........
